Mangaluru, Sep 27: This is the heart-rending story of Victor D'Souza, who is now battling for life within the four walls of Srinivas Institute of medical sciences, Mukka.
Victor, son of Ligory D’Souza, hails from Balkunje near here. He lives with his brother who also happens to be a polio victim.
Problems are not new to him. Years ago, his wife abandoned him after learning that Victor was diagnosed with cancer. However, he worked as daily wager to earn his daily bread. It was some months back when he fell extremely sick and was unable to move. Concerned by this development, his sister took him to the nearest hospital where he was diagnosed with brain tumour.
Fate played a cruel game again, when doctors at Srinivas institute diagnosed him with brain tumour and suggested that he went for an immediate surgery. The surgery was done on August 23 by neurologist Dr Deepak S.
From there on till date, he has been kept in ICU. He is recovering but at a very low pace. He requires radiation, chemotherapy and many other advanced treatments further. According to the doctors the whole treatment will cost about Rs 10 lacs.
Being financially very weak and shattered by all these developments his sister who is the sole support to Victor, is finding it difficult to make ends meet as they have nothing of their own and no one to depend on. Speaking to Daijiworld.com his sister Hilda Rodrigues expressed her pain and said, “Until recently Vincent was doing his day to day activities on his own, despite being a cancer patient for the past 10 years. Lately he was diagnosed with brain tumour. Being the only support to him, I am finding it very difficult to arrange the required amount of money. I do not know how to pay such a large amount.”
