Mangalore: Radio Mirchi 98.3 Sizzles Airwaves

Times of India

Mangalore, Nov 23: Mangalore: Avid listeners of radio can spend happy hours tuned in to non-stop chartbuster music, loads of humour and gossip. Radio Mirchi 98.3 FM, the first private radio station, launched its studio in the city on Friday. It went on air in the evening.

Kiran Kumar, station head, told reporters that Radio Mirchi would offer creative yet localized content for the city, with a mix of Kannada, Hindi and Tulu to cater to the local population. Kumar said the programming was created to revitalize radio listening in the city.

Amit Satpathy, cluster head, Karnataka and Kerala, said the programme content would be reviewed every three months, and changes would be made based on feedback from the listeners.

RJ Vishwas Kamath

Usha Singh, programming head, said the city would wake up to ‘Filter Coffee’, followed by ‘Hello Mangalore’, a charged-up breakfast show. For women, there is an exclusive programme ‘Bombat Bhama’ and ‘Bitti Ticket’ would give the latest from the Kannada film industry.

The channel initially would be on air for 18 hours, starting at 6 am. The reach may be beyond Mulky, said Kumar, adding that actual signal strength would have to be tested for reception at Udupi and Manipal.

Congrats to Radio Mirchi for kickstarting the FM culture in mangalore. but as some of them has rightly said that too much of kannada can really make people feel bored as one must remember that mangalore is offlate having a huge cosmopolitan mix of people, then i am sure there will be a lot of demand for hindi and english songs aswell. but on the whole its good news for all mangaloreans since they can enjoy driving or relaxing at home by listining to radio mirchi.

Hello to all the listeners of radio mirchi and also to the team. But we mangaloreans need a change in the programmes, we need songs frm Tulu , english and also from hindi as well... by expressing this i am not against kannada but we cannot hear songs from only one language throughout the day... This is not only my opinion , but opinion of most mangloreans.

Wow ! FM for Mangalore at last. I have been hearing that FM Will soon arrive in Mangalore, for the last couple of years, but finally it did. Thanks to the efforts of all those involved. I woulf like to give one piece of advice, Mangaloreans are not like the people in Bangalore, and would not want to listen to the hyped kannada sterotype songs, off course not forgetting a part of the population which lives there, which can be kept in mind by the organisers.

But please people give us the best cause we definitely deserve the best. I on the other hand always love to listen to the FM in Kuwait and they make it really exceptional, but it is never boring. FM is one medium which people will never feel bored with. I am looking forward to my vacation and while am there am certainly going to enjoy our own FM. All the best people. Long live FM!

Relief to people of Mangalore, Radio Mirchi did begin its broadcast, finally. But what has it been playing since morning? ALL KANNADA??? NO!!! We at coastal Karnataka rather prefer more Hindi, Tulu, Konkani and English (definitely all youngsters) than that overdose of Kannada songs. Well, I'm not against Kannada, but it'd be nice if they stick to their words - "A blend of Kannada, Hindi n Tulu...". Let's see if this can be an alternative to TV and premium costing World Space..
