Congratulations ... I like Mangalore airport . In my view Mangalore airport is one of best among 2 tier city airports in the country, the airport is clean and staffs are very friendly. Well the most irritating part is 20 people will come to 1 passenger.

    Runway................

From the previous incident/disaster, normally the passengers may have psychological fear while landing or take off at Mangalore runway. I hold my breath and pray to God (protect and save us all) till the aircraft comes to a complete halt. Especially, rainy season.

Growth in passenger traffic only and not in quality of services. Over 60 % of passengers hail from outside M’luru – Udupi Dist. Majority of them travel from Kasaragod, Bhatkal and surrounding areas.

Main drawback of Mangalore Airport is Runway which is 2450m in length and RESA area of 90m in front and 300m at the back.which is why only smaller aircraft like Boeing 737 and Airbus A320,A319 type aircraft can Land. No bigger or wide body aircraft like B777 or A330 cannot land. To extend the runway by 700 m to make it to 3150m or 3200m only few acres of land has to be acquired and runway to be extended.By the time our govt understands the urgency Kannur airport will be ready and ready to take passengers from Mangalore Airport and people from puttur, kasaragod, madikeri, mysore will use kannur airport. Simply making some taxiway, approach road , drinking water, etc will not solve the major issue of extending the runway.

Very poor passenger handling. It feels like your standing in a railway station while people enter the queue(not a perfect queue) from all sides. No mercy on the old and the mothers with children. Very congested receiving area. The luggage handling is the worst with trolleys being spread everywhere. Needs a lot of improvement. The passenger traffic growth is only because there is no other option left. Hope the concerned take necessary action and make it the best airport.

To improve the passenger load govt needs to a increase the runway length. If it increased then lots of airlines like emirates and fly Dubai will come to mangalore which will be boon to mangalore tourism and mangalore will attract more investment. Let the govt and the our airport authority do their part of work.
