Kejriwal to shift house; Where's austerity? Asks BJP

Kejriwal not to take up five-bedroom flats

Updated

New Delhi, Jan 4 (PTI):
Facing criticism, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal today announced his decision not to take up the two five-bedroom duplex flats he has been alloted.

He told the media that he has asked the government to look for smaller accommodation for him.

"Since yesterday my friends, supporters have been calling me and sending messages saying I should not move into the five-bedroom flat. So, I have decided to forego them. I am asking the government to look for smaller accommodation for me," he said at a party strategy meeting.
He said till then, he would function from his Ghaziabad residence.

Kejriwal has been allotted two five-bedroom duplex flats on Bhagwan Das Road one of which is to be used as his office.

Questioning the Aam Admi party credentials, his opponents including the BJP had attacked him for taking up the flats.

BJP MLAs had yesterday come down hard on Kejriwal in the Delhi Assembly on the issue, saying his decision to accept the two flats was in "total contradiction" of AAP's claim that it will practice austerity.

Asked about the attack on him for choosing a big apartment, Kejriwal said, "It is actually important. We have come to cleanse dirty politics. Like Caesar's wife we have to be above suspicion and we have to subject ourselves to scrutiny".

The Delhi Chief Minister had said yesterday, "I have been given two separate houses, each having five bedrooms. You can take your camera and check the houses. I will be living in one of those with my family while using the other as my office where we can work till late hour".

"Now, I will live with my family in the five-bedroom house. Earlier, I was living in a four-bedroom apartment, that's the only difference," he had said.

He said the party will today discuss the strategy for Lok Sabha elections but ruled out coming out with any names of candidates.

Asked if any big announcement is expected today, Kejriwal said he has already made one today.

Kejriwal has been living in a society flat in Kausambi and had refused to shift to a Type-Seven bungalow which he is entitled to after taking oath as the Chief Minister on December 28.

His team had finalised the two flats on Bhagwan Das Road after scanning a number of government flats near the Delhi Secretariat around Indraprastha Extension.

Delhi government ministers are entitled to Type-Six or Type-Seven bungalows with three-bedrooms. Sheila Dikshit has since 2003 been staying at a Type-8 bungalow on 3, Motilal Nehru Marg in Lutyens Delhi.

Kejriwal to shift house; Where's austerity? Asks BJP

New Delhi, Jan 3 (PTI): Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal will soon be shifting to a five-bedroom duplex flat in central Delhi from his current residence in the Kausambi locality of Ghaziabad.

Kejriwal has been allotted two five-bedroom duplex flats on Bhagwan Das Road, of which one is to be used as his office.

But the allotment of the flats saw BJP MLAs come down hard upon Kejriwal in the Delhi Assembly as the party charged that the CM's decision to accept the two flats was in "total contradiction" of AAP's claim that it will practice austerity.

"Allotment of two big flats to the Chief Minister has exposed the party. It is in total contradiction of their stated position. Their resolve to remain Aam Aadmi fell flat," senior BJP leader Sahab Singh Chouhan said in the Assembly.

Kejriwal and his six ministers had decided not to stay in any government bungalows but instead live in modest flats.

"I have been given two separate houses, each having five bedrooms. You can take your camera and check the houses. I will be living in one of those with my family while using the other as my office where we can work till late hours," Kejriwal told reporters.

"Now, I will live with my family in the five-bedroom house. Earlier, I was living in a four-bedroom apartment, that's the only difference," he said.

Sources said that the accommodation for Kejriwal was finalised after his family saw the place last week. The flats are being renovated and Kejriwal is likely to shift after two-three days.

Kejriwal is to be bit moderate!!! he cannot run a govt from roads. For each and every work one should follow some systems. Maybe Kejriwal is looking bit big to this coming Lok Sabha elections. Maybe his actions like Mungerilal Ke Haseen Sapne The PM.

I do not agree with you that he preferred camera for everything he did. On the contrary media and press reporters follow him wherever he goes. He does not want any publicity. Good works always stand out. We should have a person like AK to cleanse the political system.

Kejriwal requires flat of this size because daily hundreds of orinary citizens as well as Ministers, MLAs & Secretaries will come to his house in odd hours to discuss the problems of the people.
While in Karnataka Tainted DK Shivakumar is quarelling for Office of his choice in Vidhana Saudha as per the advice of his Jyothishi/Vastu Pandit, some foolish politicians are unnecessarily talking about trivial matter.

People even found fault with Mahatma Gandhiji.
People even found Fault with Jayaprakash Narayan and Anna Hazare.
So, it is not surprising that now such negative minded people are finding fault with Kejriwal. Inspite of being largest party BJP could not rule Delhi which is a hen laying golden Egg, AAP seems to be biggest hurdle in their (BJPs) way to collect huge fund for next LS election. That is why they are burning with jealousy against AAP.

BJP has no other work than accusation. They should work collectively to achieve requirement of Indias' Aam Aadmy. People(at least urban and educated)are much wiser to judge what's going on.
A long list of accusation on AAP and personal attack on Kejriwal by Dr.Harsh vardhan was telecasted live only showed his hidden face and discomfort in sitting as non ruler.

He has not built a new house. He is occupying a vacant place, substantial place of which will be used as office. A national party like BJP should take up bigger issues than these small matters. The people have no problem if he lives in a good locality and good place. The people are interested in corrupt free government. AAP government will have tough time as these established parties will take every opportunity to let the CM down. Let us hope that things will happen in Delhi, which seems to be like a pilot project of AAP.

He is going to live in only one flat, that is near Delhi Secretariat. Although, it looks contradictory to AAP stated austerity, it is a necessity. As a Chief Minister, he can not live in a far off place and waste the time to travel in Delhi traffic. He should be available near the Assembly and anyway, he has desisted from taking the luxurious bungalow that was occupied by his predecesor.

BJP wants just to make an issue over a small tissue.

There is nothing wrong with a minister living in a good house and work towards eliminating austerity in the economy. He does not need to live in austerity.
He can do this by generous funding to all worthwhile projects starting with universal income similar to the Swiss. In fact, deficits are free money and can be used to eliminate austerity.

In the short time Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has done an excellent job and his proposals are laudable. He wants to lead a simple life and does not want to live in a bungalow. General elections will take place this year in India and there is no doubt the AAP will be able to be the big winner. The programme and the intentions of the AAP are honest (eradication of corruption). The AAP will influence the political landscape in India. 2014 will be an interesting year for India.

    Best regards

Socialism is an economic concept that calls for sharing the wealth. The AAP´s success is very surprising. The AAP has the potential to become a strong social democratic power in India. What I have heard and read about this young political party reminds me strongly of the term democratic socialism, in its purest sense, would mean a socialistic society that is under a democratic government. Both democracy and socialism are based on the ideal of equality. Democracy is a form of government in which the citizens participate, assisting to various degrees in governing themselves and that is a strong political demand of the AAP.
Socialism is an economic concept that calls for sharing the wealth of a society among all of its members, rather than more wealth being held by some people than by others.
What I find too in the political programme, if possible to talk about a final political programme of the AAP, is, people, who support the idea of democratic socialism typically believe that decisions in a society should be made by considering the needs of all of the people, not just the wealthy or powerful. This applies to economic and social decisions. Some important beliefs among democratic socialists are that resources and wealth should be used to benefit all members of a society and that economic institutions should be controlled and owned by people who are affected by them. They also typically believe in the ideal of all members of a society having a voice in the decisions that affect them. This stands in contrast with the communist form of socialism, in which an all-powerful government owns all the resources and industries, and decisions are made for the people instead of by them.
A society living in a system of democratic socialism also would be committed to meet the needs of all its citizens. A wide variety of needs would be met through social programmes that are designed to benefit every citizen and ensure a high quality of life. Examples of such programmes include universal childcare, free or subsidised education, national healthcare systems that provide access for all and other social services. And under democratic socialism, the government usually is envisioned as being controlled by the citizens, with the primary goal of making decisions to benefit society as a whole. This democracy would be characterised by equality among people as well. There would be no preferential treatment for the rich or important, and members of the government would live like average citizens. In addition, there would be no discrimination on the basis of race, religion, economic status, gender or any other difference.
Can one imagine an India without corruption? A questions hardly to answer. The AAP has the power to attract people from all walks of life and there are good chances to get an excellent result from the voters. Suddenly India has the chance to fight against corruption and to eradicate it.
    Sometimes dreams become true.
