Puttur: Woman's 'kidnap' claim turns out to be drama, MLA calls for strict action

Puttur, Oct 1: In a new twist to the story of a woman's escape from kidnappers and attempt to rape, police investigation has now revealed that the entire incident was a drama, a yarn spun by the woman for reasons that are yet unclear.
Naushida, wife of Khadar from Madavu, on September 25 had claimed that she was kidnapped by a gang in a Scorpio car and taken to Arambur in Sullia. She told reporters later how she had escaped from the 'kidnappers' when they tried to 'rape' her and took shelter in a house from where she called her husband for help.
However, during investigation, Naushida reportedly changed her statement and said that she had created the story to hoodwink her family. She was not kidnapped, but had herself taken a bus to Sullia without informing the family. It is said that she took the step as she was being harassed by her husband's family. However, the exact reasons and circumstances leading to the incident are yet to be revealed and police investigation is on.
Meanwhile, Puttur MLA Shakuntala Shetty said that she has asked superintendent of police to file a criminal case against Naushida for misleading the public and creating chaos.
Speaking to media persons, MLA Shetty said, "The kidnap drama staged by Naushida created an atmosphere of communal unrest in Puttur. She has attempted to spoil the peace of this area and hence I have asked higher police officials to take strict action."
"Naushida's wish to leave her home is her personal matter. It is wrong to make up a kidnap story to serve her purpose. It is a shame that Naushida created drama despite being an educated woman who is involved in various associations," she added.
"In future, these kinds of instances should not repeat. Strict action should be taken so that no one else dares to attempt such a thing," she said.
Police have said that clear details will emerge after thorough investigation.
SDPI president Aboobakkar Siddique said that the protest which was planned in relation to the case has been cancelled.
