Udupi, Aug 12: The judicial custody of the persons accused in the Manipal gang-rape case has been extended till August 26.

The three accused - Yogish, Hariprasad and Anand were produced in the chief judicial magistrate court here on Monday August 12.

Harindra and Balachandra, brothers of Hariprasad and Yogish who were arrested on charges of destroying evidence, were also produced.

All five have been sent to judicial custody till August 26. The three main accused will be sent back to Shimoga jail as earlier, while Harindra and Balachandra will be lodged in Hiriadka jail.

Earlier, Harindra and Balachandra had applied for bail, which was rejected on the grounds that they may again attempt to destroy more evidence, said the public prosecutor.

A student of Manipal University was allegedly kidnapped and gang-raped by three men in an auto rickshaw on the night of June 20. Yogish, Hariprasad and Anand were arrested a week later. Among them, Yogish and Anand attempted suicide just before their arrest and were admitted in hospital. Later, all three were sent to Shimoga jail under judicial custody.

    JN Bijai,

    Correct.

Look at the guy's physique. Prison life is a blessing in disguise for them. Still look strong. I do not think they are subjected to hard labour as yet.
