Udupi: Well of Brahmavar police station disappears!

Udupi, Jul 12: The protective wall and platform built around a wall located within the premises of the police station at Brahmavar have disappeared all of a sudden. The incident occured on the night of Wednesday July 10.

This was noticed by a woman, who approached the well at around 8 pm that day to draw water from there.

The well here had been dug many years back when police quarters were constructed. The protective wall around the well was also built then.

Even the pump set and pipes fitted to it have been sucked into the well.  A water tank located near the well now faces the prospects of collapsing. Because of rainy season, repairing of wells becomes highly impracticable because of deep standing water.

Revenue officials visited the spot, and estimated the loss to be about three lac rupees, said station house officer, Girish Kumar S.

Kindly note " Revenue officials visited the spot, and estimated the loss to be about three lac rupees "

If this well belongs to any farmer, they same revenue officer would have estimated the value and compensation around Rupees 10,000 which includes the commision of granting and paying officers.

I think this well was built in around the period of 1975-78. I still remember when we were kids we used to go to nearby as few of classmates used to stay in police quarters. Good old memories.

A temporary wall should be built around well immediately to avoid any further mishaps. Any person or animal could fall into this open well by mistake.

These type of disappearance of the border of the well is expected in monsoon period when there is unbatted rain if the top portion of the well in the ground level is not built by granite/latrite stones. In Gerukatte village in the town (opposite Paimams building)in Belthangady tq this type of misphap happened souple of years back.Still people can see this.

From the layers of the mud shows that mud around the well is filled one not actual mud that existed before Meaning mud need to settle down for many years and right now at that place mud density is low. Hence, there is no way that wall would have remained.

Secondly, wall was built by not private venture but govt. Hence, it had low and substandard engineering and poor quality of work. If the well contracted from bottom to top with stones properly erected well would have sustained.

May be I would have helped to build if I was that place. I did have little exposure to this kind of work during my childhood days.
