Udupi, Jul 12: A pall of gloom descended over Bailakere, Malpe here as the mortal remains of John Vikram Martis (36) were brought to the residence and later laid to rest at St Anne's Church, Thottam here on Friday July 12.

A large number of relatives, friends and well-wishers visited the family's residence to pay their last respects.

Speaking to reporters, John's brother Vijay Martis said that it was a Taliban camp fight in Afghanistan that had resulted in a bomb blast which killed seven persons including John Martis on July 2.

He said that John, a BCom graduate, was a full time employee with a multi-contracting private defence company where he was working in the finance department. Vijay said that he too is employed with the same company and will continue working for it.

Vijay added that he did not know exactly how the attack took place. "The one who could explain (Vijay) is no more with us," he said.

"Bomb blasts are common in Afghanistan, every day there are 2 to 3 blasts taking place. John used to travel frequently and had been to Afghanistan 5-6 times previously," he said.

He expressed his gratitude to the Indian embassy and said that because of their coordination, the family could get John's mortal remains in just 10 days. He also thanked union minister Oscar Fernandes and ministry of external affairs and said, "As a citizen of India I am thankful to them all."

He added, "I do not have any complaint against the company. Our brother's life is already gone, and we will not ask for compensation. We are grateful to them."

Asked whether John had any plans to return, Vijay replied in the negative. "He had been working for 18 months and was very happy with his job," he said, adding that there was nothing to investigate in the matter.

    Sanjay Aithal,

It is not a question of giving mercy for indians or any other nationals besides saudi arabians. Saudization is only for saudis to make them employable.

If any country's government does not provide jobs for its youth then the youth will become jobless, frustrated, and become trouble-makers/ rowdy-sheeters/terrorists etc. If saudi arabia does not provide jobs for its youth, those youth could get influenced by idealogical thinking in a madrassa and could turn into terrorists etc. against western interests / society.

Similarly, if mangalore's youth are jobless, they will become trouble makers and become influenced by idealogical associations like RSS /VHP / Bajrang Dal, and slap women like how these political activists from SRS /HJV did so, in pub attack or home-stay attack. Get it?

RIP Dear friend. heartfelt condolences to the parents and family

@ Amar Nathal- This is not the right time to discuss politics. In Saudi, not thousands but more than 12 lakh Indians are living. They feel safe and secure there unlike INDIA where communal violence, riots and RAPES are the order of the day.
Can u tell me why America and UK attacked IRAQ- is it for WMD or for OIL.Now tell me who are the real terrorists. We should be careful for going to work with the American military operations. We can buy peace and happiness for our family with Rupees, Riyals or Dirhams. We should think before going after DOLLARS.
I feel very painful to state that my most respected teacher( Mr Venkat )lost his beloved son while working for NATO

Yes brother, then You guys stop going to work in UK and America. Then what about Saudi Government Are they having least humanity? They are planning to expel thousands of Indians with in a month. What mercy do they have?

Sanjay Aithal, Pls come out of your wrong knowledge. Saudi Govt is not expelling any one. They are just telling every one to live and work legally. First they gave 3 months and now they have given another 4 months to correct the legal status.we Indians are trapped by the mess created by the Saudi citizens who sell the visas to the gullible people like us.We buy these visas, go there and search job and work with other saudis / companies. What the saudi govt says that you should work for the person who called you and not for others.
That is why the govt has given 7(3 4) months time to get registered with whom you are working, IF not leave the company. Unfortunately there are thousands of Indians who worked for other saudis could not get renewed their residency permits. Even for such Indians also the saudi govt gave a chance to find a job with other saudi and get registerd.
The saudi govt do not want to see other foreigners working / doing business independently. They want to see every foreigner to work with the the saudi / co, with whom they are registerd
We should be thankful to Saudi govt for giving 7 months to correct the legal status.

May the good God now at least enlighten the mind of the concerned and stop killing the innocent. Rest in peace dear brother. Pray for us from where you are now.
