Mangalore, Jul 11: "The state rural development and Panchayat Raj minister, H K Patil has to ask for forgiveness or resign from his post as minister for criticizing the Anna Bhagya scheme," said Congress leader B Janardhan Poojary, addressing a press meet here on Thursday, July 11.

A day prior to the launch of the ambitious rice at Re 1 per kg scheme, Patil had said instead of providing cheap rice, the government should have focused on providing drinking water and sanitation facilities in rural areas. However, he later retracted and said that the scheme would help the poor.

Lambasting Patil over his statement, Poojary said, "It is not right on the part of Patil to oppose and criticize the rice scheme. This clearly shows that Patil has no concern towards the poor."

"Patil has clearly violated the code of discipline making such a statement. He has to ask for forgiveness, or resign from his post. All others, including a few opposition leaders have praised the scheme. Our duty is work for the poor. People have trusted the Congress manifesto and voted us. It is not right to cheat the people in any way," he said.

"Opposition and BJP will quote Patil when the Food Security Bill is going to be passed in the session. Earlier in 2005, we had waived a debt of nearly Rs 48,00,000 in favor of the poor. The government had given nearly 300 acres of land for a company, but no update on this has been received yet."

"There is a need to work together for the welfare of the people, especially the poor. A people friendly government has to be formed," he said.

Kallige Tharanath Shetty, Harikrishna Bantwal, Suresh Ballal and Arun Coelho were present.

Cong wants the poor to remain as poor by feeding them cheap grain.
Bye the way Poojary sir,how do you take care of poor workers whom we can find everywhere who are migrated from other places living without proper shelter and have no BPL card with them . How do you distribute rice to them.
The scheme itself is incomplete and temporary just to take care of cong win in next parliament elections.

Poojary Belongs to Congress. Govt is run by Congress. Poojary has a complaint about a Minister who is also a Congress guy.

Then anybody could tell why This Poojary is going to Press and say H. K. Patil is wrong ? What is the problem for Poojary to catch a KSRTC bus to Bangalore and ask Siddu to sack him. Why he is "PRESSING" the PRESS ?

Nothing new. Poojary is famous for his loose tongue and unkuthness. Nothing surprising. That's the reason he lost so many elections and still thinks he is is greatest local leader. Yet, some idiotic congress people run behind him. He has no ' social class ' compared to Oscar Fernandes, which position he is trying to compete for.

HK Patil's concern to provide clean drinking water and sanitation facilities are very important together with providing subsidized food grains. The order/priority in which these basic necessities provided to poor is left to the government, but it is true that poor people need all basic amenities. Everyone now are hoping and putting pressure on congress government led by siddu to solve all problems of poor. BJP n opposition have not done significant when they ruled karnataka, now is the time for siddu to deliver good. Siddu who came from poor background will knw the importance of sanitary facilities !! Jairam Ramesh famously said - do not marry off your daughter to a house which doesnot have proper toilets. Clean drinking water to poor people is a must. Even cities do not have clean drinking water. Some districts in karnataka have fluride n other harmful contents in underground water. Most water bodies are polluted n unfit for human/animal/birds consumption. There is a daunting task to use Science n Tech at affordable rates to provide clean water.

Siddu - all people are now asking more n more from u. Atleast you are listening to peoples needs. I recall previous YEEDY Government totally abandoned flood victims in northern karnataka that saw loss of life - human, cattle, birds, sheeps etc. Siddus Socialism background is a plus point for poor people.

With general election round the corner, looks like Mr. Poojary is trying to make his presence felt, by issuing all unwanted needless statements, first the felecitations, and now this what is wrong with HK Patil statements, the poor will not get their share, the distributes will start making profit, and corruption will creep in its time the high command must ask Mr. Poojary to mind his business and not try to be in the limelight for nothing, just telling the electorate that I am available

I appreciated otherday when Janardhan Pujary told not to accept "Sanmana"s to elected MLSs. But In this case, why don't he think that when something is distributed cheaply, there is a good scope for scams and black marketting to come into fray. Laziness will lead to alcoholism. No people are available for agricultural activities. What Basavanna and Gandhiji taught was "Work is Worship" and not "Eat, Drink and Sleep". As long as middle class cash cows are paying taxes... politicians distribute as if it is they are distributing from their pockets..GOD SAVE THE COUNTRY..

The cheap rice scheme is getting costilier within the congi party, still there are some great thinkers in Congi party. The statement from Mr. Poojary that the Re 1 rice scheme will help the poor. Sure it helps the poor and also keep them poor, so the politicians will not allow them to think beyond the cheap stuff and keep on voting them for this favour. Poor will not think beyond if he or she gets Re 1 rice and even Re 1 for Alchohol next election scheme.

I don't see anything wrong in the minister's statement.

From an economics perspective, investments in drinking water and infrastructure is an infrastructure related expense which has its benefits in the long run.

The 1 Re rice scheme is a free bee based consumption driven expense, which has no long term value. Plus such an expenditure is a drain on the economy.

Instead of this wasteful expense, invest in schemes which help the common man gain meaningful employment.

    There is a nice saying

'Give a man a fish, and you feed him for a day show him how to catch fish, and you feed him for a lifetime.'

There is nothing wrong in what HK Patil said. If the Govt instead made some efforts to create more jobs to particular BPL sectors it would have helped the State. Congress is responsible for decline in farming thanks to land reforms act for vote bank, almost bankrupted Nationalised banks through loan scheme(again vote bank politics), now Puksatte Rice scheme, these scheme may work in Gulf countries where the population is less and the Expats make it up by working for other and maintaining the GDP so that the countries have enough wealth to import even "Shankarpura Mallige", but in a long term will only ruin the nation & its human resources. Tomorrow Siddhu & Poojary if they r alive only may have to Tie their Mundu to head and bend to sow paddy seeds if this continues like this. Rich will get richer, Middle class will become poorer coz of cheap schemes like these. All these just to help 2014 ?? at the expense of whom ???
