Bantwal, Jul 11: A leopard that had strayed from the forests and had turned a nightmare for the villagers bordering the forest, was trapped in a cage in Chennaittody village in the taluk on Thursday July 11 morning.

The animal got trapped in Angadipalke Kulalu at Chennaittody.

It is learnt that the personnel of forest department arrived at the spot, took the leopard into their custody and carried it to Pilikula.

The leopard, which stealthily prowled in the agricultural fields belonging to a local named Madhava, had earlier feasted on some cows and calves.

Frustrated by recurring losses, Madhava had laid a trap in the form of a cage with a dog tied inside it, in consultation with forest department officials. The leopard, which was tempted to taste the dog, got trapped in the cage.

As soon as the news of the leopard having been caught spread, hundreds of villagers made a beeline to the spot to have a glimpse of the predator.

Due to strict conservation, these wild animals have multiplied. The animals fight between themselves for territory. That's how they enter into human habitats and kill livestock.

In Africa & the US wild animals are culled to maintain a balance in population. This is not done in India and not much study is done by the Forest Dept.

Leopard feasted on some cows n calves belonging to madhava ?? Bajarangis should be informed about this. BD should organise a protest against leopard.

Or leave this leopard in Bajarangi office/group. Forest officials - can u do it?
