TERI tops global think-tank list

New Delhi, July 10 (IANS): The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) of India has been ranked the top climate think-tank globally by the International Centre for Climate Governance (ICCG), a statement said Wednesday.

TERI won under the category "Absolute Global Rankings" and all its activity outputs produced in 2012 were taken into consideration.

According to the statement, only those think-tanks that are working at the international level were assessed and the ranking was based upon coherent and checkable data.

"It is particularly relevant and a matter of great pride for India to see that TERI has been ranked right at the top in the ICCG Climate Think Tank Ranking," said R.K. Pachauri, TERI director general.

The rankings included the think-tanks working in the field of climate change, economics and policy with headquarters outside the European Union.

TERI was set up in 1974. It is an independent and not-for-profit research institute focused on energy, environment and sustainable development.

Other international think-tanks that featured in the list include Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs, Woods Hole Research Center, Resources for the Future, and Princeton Environmental Institute, among others.

The other participants from India were: Council on Energy, Environment and Water; Ashoka Trust for Research and Ecology; Gujarat Ecology Society; and Centre for Policy and Research.
