Mangalore, Jun 15: "Development works in the district will be carried out with the co-operation of various departments for the benefit of people, but at the same time, mistake will not be tolerated," said district in-charge minister B Ramanath Rai.

He addressed the officials during the district progress review meeting held at the DC office here on Saturday June 15.

Briefing about the loss caused due to rain, district commissioner N Prakash said this year three people have died, two of them due to lightning strike. As many as 32 houses were completely damaged, and three cattle died.

In response, minister Rai asked the officials concerned to provide compensation to the families of the deceased before they could come to them. The minister also asked details about the extent of damage incurred last year and also the necessary measures taken by the district administration.

Social Security Project

Currently, altogether 71,975 beneficiaries in the district receive financial benefit under categories like old age pension (5,229), widow pension (26,948), handicap pension (15,022), and Sandhya Suraksha (24,726). "Also, there are 15,946 newly approved applications. As many as 642 applications were rejected this year," said the DC.

Commenting on this, MLC Monappa Bhandary and MLA JR Lobo said that out of the rejected applications, a few people were still eligible to receive benefits. They urged for re-verification of the applications to which the DC replied that he would personally monitor it.

Food and civil supplies department

There are 511 fair price shops in the district and 3,97,057 people have ration cards and 6981 new application were received this year, said the DC. Raising an issue, J R Lobo said people face lot of problems like slow software, inadequate seating arrangement, rude behavior by officials at Aadhar card/ration card centers etc. He urged the officials to look into the matter on priority.

About Aadhar card center, the DC said currently there are 80 machines in the district, but the number is insufficient and hence there is delay in work. "We have placed a demand for an additional 20 machines. Once we receive them, the problem will be sorted out," he said.

On the 30 kg rice at Re 1 scheme announced by the state government, minister Rai said that it will be launched on July 10. "As many as 1,79,352 people in the district are eligible to receive rice at Re 1 and the district needs  7,000 tons of rice to fulfil the demand," he said.

Referring to major projects like bus stand, establishing Ranga Mandira and Thumbay vented dam, Lobo asked the district administration and the district in-charge minister to keep a separate meeting to discuss these major topics.

Health minister U T Khadar, fisheries minister Abhaychandra Jain, MP Nalin Kumar Kateel, MLA Shakuntala Shetty, district in-charge secretary Bharat Lal Meena, CEO of ZP K N Vijayprakash, police commissioner Manish Karbikar, ZP president Koragappa Nayak among others were present.

The Thumbay vented dam project, urban development projects, RTC delay and various other issues were also discussed in the meeting.

Good meeting. Such meetings should be conducted periodically and the decisions taken should be implemented without leaving them to be only in the paper and starting a blame- game. Responsibilities to be given to persons concerned and action taken report to be submitted. Dear Minister Mr. Rai, mistakes should not be punished should be corrected but mischief should be punished. If you start punishing for mistakes no body will work because mistakes may be subjective. When you work there are chances of committing mistakes which could be corrected. But mischief should be punished severely. Good move of meetings with the people. Carry on with good work and show to people you man business.

    Dear Sirs,
Please work to provide us decent public transport system and good roads. To cater increasing traffic around Mangalore and to reduce congestion in the City kindly develop smooth four lane road between Thokottu to Mudipu and continuation to BC road and Vittal, Kushekar to Moodabidri, Nirmarga to BC road.

Private buses are a big messy affair in Mangalore and around. These buses don’t move unless they are pushed by the bus behind them and after half way they rush , accelerating and braking and thus giving jolts to the passengers. The agony of passengers increases during Hot and humid conditions. Some buses have tarpaulin and during rainy season half of the seats gets water logged and to add to the misery of travelling blind folded in these buses.
Please introduce 50% KSRTC buses in all routes (Good example of orderly way of operating KSRTC bus is in route no. 51k to Mudipu). People have given you power. Please exercise them and come to their rescue. Please call bus Owners representatives and give them stern warning regarding dangerous way of operating public transport.

Happy to see Bharat laal meena as district incharge secretary, looking into matters of Mangalore. He along with present MLA strived hard to develop Mangalore. Managlore owes a lot to Bharat Lal Meena. I could say Mangalore saw best bureaucrats in the form of Bharat Lal Meena and J.R.Lobo, both as civil servants, worked hard to bring change. They, as bureaucrats did more work, invested all their energy to develop Mangalore than their political bosses ( MLA, MP) could do. Their performance came at a time when there was crises, and by sheer will power they served public.

TO me, Bharat Lal Meena is role model as an IAS officer. Happy to see u sir.

He was honest upright officer who took bold decision that brought embarrassment to many people who got affected.

Mr.Rai you should arrange the MINUTES OF THE MEETING ( instead tea/biscuits/camera/bakwas) and to be recorded as evident for the progress of any issue and which you can observe or punish any officials on the basis of record !

Which mistakes Mr. Rai? Karnataka people themselves made big mistakes by choosing Congress Party to rule Karnataka for next five years though the mandate is for thirty seven percent only. It means they ed worst among the worst instead of best among the worst. Mr. Rai, once you spoiled the transport business of your region when you were Transport Minister and now you will target all remaining Forest area all over Karnataka for sure

    Dear Mr. Rai,

Your press conference is not enough to highlight the problems of your area. Because we are witnessing this drama of our politicians right from our childhood. We want you to sincerely monitor the progress of the work periodically done by the various govt. Dept. officials concerned without any political interference. You are well known for your sincerity and integrity by the people and I am sure that the govt. benefits will reach the poorest of the poor under your able district leader ship.

In a democracy the oppositon party is equally responsible for the better implementation of welfare schemes by supporting and introuducing newer projects and people friendly schemes.
Both Congress and the BJP will keep in mind of this major principle of democracy and go beyond party politics.
One doubt: Where were these congressmen when they were in opposition? Any track records?
All the best to you elected and non-elected representatives, leaders.

    BROTHER RAI,
I DO NOT MIND SEEING YOU IN T SHIRT AS LONG AS YOU ARE TRUE TO YOUR JOB.
    EVERYONE WANTS TO MAKE MONEY.
HOWEVER VERY FEW PEOPLE WANT TO BE TRUE CHILDREN OF GOD.
LIFE IS WONDERFUL WHEN YOU TRY TO WALK IN THE FOOTSTEPS OF OUR CREATOR.
DO IT TO SOMEONE WHAT YOU EXPECT SOMEONE TO DO TO YOU.
    LIVE AND LET LIVE.
BE HONEST TO PEOPLE JUST LIKE BEING HONEST TO YOUR PARENTS WHEN YOU ARE IN PRIMARY SCHOOL.
RAI BROTHER, IT IS EASY TO PREACH IN FRONT OF HAPLESS SUBORDINATES.
BUT IT IS RATHER TOUGH TO DO IT YOURSELF.
HONESTY IS A VIRTUE OF GOD HIMSELF.
    TRUTH IS ANOTHER VIRTUE.
BOTH CAN NOT BE HIDDEN FOR A LONG TIME.
ONCE IN A BLUE MOON...KABHI KABHI...
