Udupi, May 28: In a shocking incident, a financier allegedly committed suicide by shooting himself on the head, even as his wife and children were at home.

The deceased is identified as Santosh Monteiro (37). The incident occured at his apartment in Shiribeedu Towers near city bus stand on Tuesday May 28 night.

The revolver used by Santosh and bullets were found near his body. Also, drinks were found on a table nearby, along with his laptop.

His wife Rekha and two sons were in the other room when he shot himself, police said.

The reason behind the incident is not yet known, but police suspect that a family matter might have led him to take this extreme step.

It is said that before shooting himself, he sent a few text messages to Rekha's brother regarding his support over some matters.

Santosh was earlier in Qatar, and had shifted base to Udupi two years ago. His father Salvador Monteiro is said to have a finance firm at Bajpe, Mangalore.

SI Lingaraju and other police officials arrived at the spot.

Udupi town police have registered a case and investigations are on.

Suicide ? Something is very fish because:
    a) Those who decide to suicide will not drink whisky with soda/water. In short, will not dilute, but will drink neat.
    b) They will not make a drink, leave the glass full of whisky and commit suicide.
    c) They will not leave behind more than three quarter of whisky & commit suicide.
(For details check second photo closely). A thorough enquiry, specially questioning children at home will help to solve the mystery. Children do not know to hide the facts. I apologize if I am wrong.

There r some people they don't tell anything to anyone. And this causes a tendency for suicide. Who knows what problem he was facing? If he would have discussed with his family this wudnot have happened. In this world I believe for every problem there is solution. Behind every suffering there is joy. This is life. Person after commiting suicide he is putting other fly members in problem.

Yes, its very wrong to end ones life but we cant judge him as most of us wont know what was going on in his life. Me personally a strong human, having faced difficult situations in life and there were times I thought of killing myself. In weak moments, its difficult to think how to face it and we tend to give up. We need to have a better support system in our society, who without judging them can guide them.

I know this boy and his family very well from childhood. "A beautiful boy from a decent family" Since, i am away for many years, I am not sure what went wrong with him. May be went into depression which weak soul cannot accept. Everyone does a mistake, pointing fingures on them and cornering them when they are alone will lead them to take such an act. Mental support and understanding is more required when they are alone. I am sure he is not such a boy who ever thought of doing such an act. I feel dumb. RIP Santhosh. May almiighty lord forgive all your sins and the people who have heart you and hold you in his arms in the kingdom of heaven. RIP Santhosh.

Typical crab mentality of losers who comment against the departed. Someone is advocating a simple life discouraging enterprenaurship which is in any way found rarely among our people. Some boldly call him selfish. Some others without any shame do some guess work maligning his reputation because he is no more here to defend himself. A situation of suicide can come to any one and more so to the enterprising individuals. My sympathy and prayerful thoughts for the family. RIP friend, may your memory and enterprising attitude continue with your children.

    Business/Finance is very stressful.

10% of people will become very successful rest fail and fade away.

Some are burnt out to such an extent that make them to take these drastic actions.

While agreeing with majority folks sucide cannot be a solution to any thing...if you put yourself in his shoes things could be very difficult to judge.
