German Bakery blast: Himayat Baig gets death sentence

Pune, Apr 18 (IANS): A Pune court on Thursday awarded death sentence to Indian Mujahideen operative Himayat Baig, who was earlier this week convicted for his involvement in the German Bakery blast here.

The attack had left 17 people dead and 64 injured.

Pune Sessions Court Special Judge MP Dhote had on Monday reserved announcement of quantum of punishment till today.

The blast occurred on Feb 13, 2010, at the German Bakery in Pune's upmarket Koregaon Park. The bakery was a popular haunt of youngsters and foreign tourists.

In September 2010, about seven months after the blast, Baig was nabbed from Udgir, Latur district of Maharashtra, by the state's Anti-Terrorism Squad.

The court had found Baig guilty on various counts under Indian Penal Code Sections 302, 307, 120b, 153A, 325, 326, and others, pertaining to murder, conspiracy, destroying property and other serious crimes.

Baig's lawyer A Rahman had said that though they respected the verdict, they would appeal against it in the Bombay High Court.

    Has anyone read today's article in Indian Express website. Please go through it. Very very interesting truth about the this guy. He says he had not even seen RDX. He was not even aware for which case he was booked. Two ATS inspectors had called him to cabin and then dod this all. Please read.

    HIS MAIN CRIME WAS THAT BEING A BAD AND IRRESPONSIBLE CITIZEN. FEB 13, 2010 TILL DATE WAS TOO MUCH TIME FOR HIM.

    every code of law will be misused and he will not be hanged another 5000 years !!

    If our judiciary truely works then dont publish the specailly death sentences !! just hang them first and then have a cup of coffee and discuss.
