Mangalore: Fake astrologer who 'resolved' people's problems lands in trouble

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangalore

Mangalore, Apr 7: Barke police on Saturday April 6 caught a fake astrologer who used to cheat people, especially women, by claiming that he could resolve their problems and in the bargain loot them of their gold and other valuables.

The accused is identified as Sudhakar Nayak (32) of Tenka Yedapadavu. Police recovered 132 grams of gold ornaments worth Rs 3.5 lac from him. Also, they have seized additional gold worth Rs 2.5 lac in banks, including 107 grams in Ganjimutt agricultural service co-operative bank and 25 grams in Yedavapadu agricultural service co-operative bank.

A self-proclaimed astrologer, Sudhakar Nayak would fool people claiming that he was well-known in the field of astrology, and that he could cure their maladies and drive away their problems. He even made these claims through advertisements on television channels. A few people who believed his claims would call him on phone. Women and rich people became his main targets.

Another trick he played was on brothers who lived together. It is said that he would pick brothers who got on well and lived in the same house, and first create problems between them. He would tell them that living in the same house was not good for them, or tell one brother about the 'problems' the other one could bring upon him. This way, after creating rifts between brothers, Sudhakar would volunteer to 'resolve' their troubles and in turn fleece money and gold from them.

The incident came to light when recently, two policewomen from Barke station, while on beat at Mannagudde visited a house occupied by a woman and her daughter, and enquired about their health. The woman told them that the astrologer had taken Rs 80,000 from them. The police then conducted an investigation and arrested him.

Along with the gold, the police also recovered a will, a copper urn, mobile phones, steel plates and other items he had taken from people by dubious means.

The accused was later produced in the court.

The police are yet to ascertain the full extent of his fraud and the total number of people he has hoodwinked. No one has come forward to file an official complaint yet, police said.

Let the guy fill his stomach. That is his smartness to influence others in the name of astrology. We must blame ourselves for being trapped in such fake fortune tellers.

If one could predict what would happen in next minute, people would stop remembering God.

Better, be away from these cunning people.

You do not need an Astrologer to predict that you will lose your money if you pursue Astrology.
All astrologers can safely be considered cheats and should not be allowed to advertise in any medium.

    Bollu
why return the valuables to their owners? They wanted to lose their valuable items for their dumb faith in religion which is brimming with astrology.
Tell me truly, do you read and keep in mind the things mentioned in your horoscope? Sometimes may be you have gone out of the way to buy some expensive astrology books to find out, when you will become crorepathi?!!!!
Come on Bollu all of us are brought up to believe in stars' moon, sun , venus etc etc. and their effect on our daily life - and sometimes you may even visit people like Nayak to find out, how soon it will be for u to become crorepathi!!!(Because u r in a hurry to know). May be those people visited Nayak were illiterate hence their need to visit Nayak. Lierate or illiterate we are in the same boat as far as astrology is concerned.

The valuables found from Nayak or similar cons should be used for charitable purpose - feeding\clothing the poor, education of same etc.
Do not return to the owners as they have lost it foolishly.

It is make-believe for ordinary people like me with very little knowledge of astrology and it is also used in religious activities, marriages etc etc. which makes me believe in it when anyone tries to con me, I think they are telling me for my own good.
I also follow some great leaders like Yeddy, DVS etc. who always consult\make huge donations\ visit so many soothsayers before they do anything and for me they are the leaders to follow.
If great leaders like Yeddy can fall for it, it is so easy for Nayak type people to con ordinary people like me.
Why blame Nayak - he is doing it for his living same like some are CM\ministers etc. for their living - and the idea behind both jobs to con people and make lots of money!!!
I regret Nayak is caught and others are not!!!

Almost all astrologers, including TV astrologers, are Frauds. Their main target is always gullible ladies, who easily fall prey to astrology. Keep in mind just one sentence, that is "No human being can forecast the future in this world, except God.
Just see how an astrologer-turned-Swami of Haryana was behind the Supari murder of BSP candidate & builder Deepak Bharadwaz last week in Delhi.

Rephrase your statement. Its very contradictory. A human is definitely not god. However, some humans can predict the future. Problem is that there are more cheats than real astrologers.

Good move by the police, like him there are many exist in India. They cheat people and hypnotize them to be obedient. People should not believe in astrology. If any one find such people in your locality inform to the police and let them take proper action on them
