Udupi, Mar 20: Trouble erupted at Bengre, Malpe here on Tuesday March 19 and on Wednesday March 20 after members of Hindu organizations alleged that a resident of the area had kept cattle for slaughtering in the premises of his house.

At around 7.30 pm on Tuesday, around 60 people surrounded B K Javed's house at Bengre and alleged that he had kept cattle with an intention to slaughter them.

Based on their complaint, Malpe police arrived at the spot and questioned Javed. On not receiving any satisfactory answer, including information about where he had brought the calf at his house from, the police took the animal into their possession and sent it to Neelavar cattle house, said circle inspector Maruthi Nayak speaking to daijiworld.

However, the matter did not end there. On Wednesday afternoon, over a hundred people from both communities gathered at the spot and a clash erupted. Stones were pelted at Javed's house and some of the agitators even entered his house and smashed the TV set and furniture. Javed's wife and aged mother who were in the house were frightened. Sources said that the stones were pelted at surrounding houses also.

Police rushed to the spot and resorted to lathi charge to disperse the crowd. The situation is now under control but tight security has been deployed at the spot to prevent further trouble.

One of the locals identified as Prasad was taken into questioning as he tried to enter Javed's house.

DySP Prabhudev Mane, four inspectors, six sub-inspectors, DAR vehicles, and rapid intervention vehicle with altogether around 100 policemen have been deployed to monitor the situation.

Case has not been registered yet as the situation is now peaceful, the DySP said.

Meanwhile, in a press note, Udupi Zilla Muslim Okkutta condemned the incident and demanded justice. The association alleged that Shiva Prasad, Prashanth, Jayapalan, Harsharaj of Hoode, Gangadhar from Kodi Bengre were involved in the incident.

You still did not get it right?
This is the idea of BD etc to make beef scarce so the price will go up and they get bigger share from the price hike. You may call it haftha, blackmail, fleecing or whatever.
They do not love cow for the sake of religion - their love is for that money generated from its meat.
Have you or any one else asked where the cows go after they steal them from various people? Have they anytime said about the whereabout of those stolen cattle ( I use the word stolen because they are nobody to arrest any cattle or people for transporting\transporter). Either they use it for their own consumption or sell it the slaughter house.
I won't be surprised the increase of cattle stolen from various houses etc.....!!!

    Dear Kaiser,
I would'nt want to pin point fingers at any community because its for you to shun radical elements in your society like the way i am condemning these "hooligans" in my community.

There are radicals everywhere and in all communities...unfortunately in Mangalore-Udupi region their numbers are extremely high and the main reason for this is unemployment. These youngsters are exploited and used by politicians.
We need to sideline these Hooligans who act as 'defenders of faith' because in reality they fake it.

Look, we have had 5 bad years in this region, we now need to put aside our differences and vote for peace, vote for change and vote for development. We need to be tolerant and promote peace between communities.

The Police officers particularly at the junior level appeared to have an in–built bias against the minorities which was evident in their treatment to minorities. Their lack of enthusiasm in registering offenses against Hindu org. even when the accused were clearly identified.
As far as the minorities are concerned, it is the feeling among us that we are not getting justice. It is of the greatest importance that appropriate steps are taken by the government to remove the cause for such feelings in the minorities. Peace will prevail only when justice is done.

Dear K.S.Mayya, Every one who comment here are aware why they comment and also aware that there is no such law in the entire world. Even he is the butcher at the slaughter house the police have no such law to take away his cattle from his compound. Am I clear? Are you talking of new Saffron Jungle law?.
The police are just doing a favor for 60 people and want to satisfy them. And one of the 60 people has the right to enter Javed house too? You did not mention that? Where on earth the 60 people can find out the intention of Javed that he is going to slaughter them?
There is no doubt Javed will be speechless in front of 60 goons and 90 supporting uniformed police. Are we and you are answerable to the police for keeping a cow in the backyard? This incident right after the local elections and showing clear reactions and you call it fiction novel?

Slaughter to be done in slaughter house is the issue of hygine. This is followed in every country including in Bangkok. Kindly enquire. In India if this rule is followed then it gets saffronized. C'mon Vincy....it's alright to be emotional but please check your facts. If you have not ben following the above incident is primarily because
    1. Cattle theft is on the rise.
    2. Demand for beef is on the rise -call it population explosion but its a fact.
    3. Price of beef might be also high - demand supply gap.
Now bring in the media and anti-saffron brigate to the mix you have a political agenda while it is just a law and order situation.

It is purely the political game, to get mileage in next coming election.

I think a lot of people either did not go through the article fully or have more information than Daijiworld has to provide. Javed obviously did not come clean regarding the number of cattle he had in his house. No it is not illegal to indulge in cattle trade. But indulging in illegal slaughter is. Cow slaughter has to be done at slaughter house designated for that purpose. Stone pelting etc is definitely wrong. Police appear to have done a good job bringing the whole situation under control. And the rest of you still interpreting the local election results and tallying that with the number of stones that landed in Javed's house all the best for your fiction novel.

I was under the impression that ONLY GOD KNOWS THE INTENTION OF HUMAN BEINGS! Now first time in the history of mankind Beedis, and DK police know the intention of mankind. Vow! What a development!
Secondly the police started acting on INTENTIONS! Is it a crime to keep cows in home? If no, under which law the police took the possession of cows? If yes, what permission do I require to have cows in home and from where I one has to get the permission? Could anybody put some light on my questions?

First of all police handled the case as per law... secondly it is major fault of both communities gathered to support/condemn... thirdly police must arrest all of them and put behind bar...

'First of all police handled the case as per law...'

How is law applied here ? Did he steal the cattle from anybody that the animals are taken away from him ? The law needs proof - what proof was there that the cattle was kept for taking to slaughter house ?

That is why I asked should one have a license to own cattle ?

If he is innocent, even police seized, if he is not cattle thief or involve in stealing cattle, WHY HE FAILED TO GIVE ANSWER TO POLICE... He can approch the court directly to release cattle if he is real owner... why both communities gather there ???

    Jeevan Sir

I feel you are true RSS follower. But it is great to notice you too have sentiments and respect LAW.

But one thing I don't agree that police can arrest all of them, when there is a biased Home minister is in power. There were better way to catch these people red handed rather then creating an unrest in community.

It is very easy nowadays to seize someone's property just like that. Where is the justice for common man? just bcos he has kept cows that anyone can just enter his house and take away his goods. This is really wrong.

Cattle have become more dangerous than arms now ! One should have a license to own/purchase a gun.

Does the same apply to cattle too ?
If so, who issues the license ? Which of the Saffron Brigades ?

Those who are confused and chose to DISAGREE to my post, here is the link between owning a gun to have cattle ownership. Guns are in-fact bought by able agriculturists to protect their crop from apes.

Now that you see its your right to take away the cattle, please take the apes too... Please... Please...
