Update: March 20

Mangalore, Mar 20: The family members of Pramila, who was found dead hanging by a tree in a wooded area near Kadri Park on Tuesday March 19, have claimed that her death was not a suicide and that she had been murdered.

Speaking to media persons at Wenlock mortuary here on Wednesday March 20, Pramila's father Ammu Poojary said that Pramila was not at all the kind of girl to even dream of committing suicide.

Pramila, who was among the two daughters and three sons of Ammu Poojary, had come to Mangalore a year back to pursue a computer course. She was also working part time at a clothing store and was staying in a hostel at Kadri.

"She was soft-natured and would never even dream of ending her life. She had called home on Sunday March 17 and had visited her native place in Dolpady last month. There was no problem and she was fine even when she called home on Sunday," Ammu said.

Her close relative's wedding was fixed for Thursday March 21, and Pramila had said that she would be coming home on Tuesday or Wednesday to attend the function.

Alleging that Pramila had been murdered, Ammu said that there her hands were bruised and there were scratch marks like ones made by fingernails on her chest.

However, police reportedly said that the marks on her chest were caused by a bee sting.

Ammu refused to believe the police theory. "Bee stings will not show scratch marks. They were caused by fingernails. It is definitely not a case of suicide and is purely a murder," he claimed.

Her teacher at the computer course center, who did not want to disclose his name, said that Pramila was a soft-spoken girl who mingled with everyone and participated in every class activity. "Any time there was an event or some celebration, Pramila would actively take part. She was punctual to class even on Mondays when most of the students would take leave or be late to class," he said.

He said that on Monday March 18 she had come to class as usual at 7.15 am and had left at the end of the class. On Tuesday she was absent. It has been surmised that she died on Monday night.

Pramila's body was found on Tuesday late afternoon by a passerby in a wooded area near Kadri Park. Her mobile phone and ATM cards were found at the spot.

Kadri police have registered a case of unnatural death.

I still have full trust on Mangalore police. It is one of the tactics used by police that the real suicide to trap the culprits more efficiently. I hope the police will nab the kingpins in next couple of days if there is no political interference.

I request the police department not to neglect this case as there were series of rape and murder of young girls specially in DK. Polic eDep't Please don't make statements to close the case, just because the family is very poor. if the mark is due to bee sting let me tell you a single bee is harmless. if they sting they sting together. there will be more than one mark i am sure. Please protect the girls and women of DK by giving justice to this case. there is no news of Soujanya's case still. Please wake up and do your duty. Don't forget that you too have mother, sister/s, wife and daughter/s.

Murder is suspected? It is a proven fact that women are not safe in India.Knowing the fact the parents are sending their daughters and end up in tragedy. The women are sexually assaulted and killed especially by drug addicts & drunkards. If the Young girls are extra cautious, they can be safe and now strict law is in place to protect them.

Seeing the pictures and the place where her body was found, ie completely secluded area, between thorns and bushes where people won't easily notice, moreover such a high branch etc., the first thought that crossed my mind was I seriously don't think this could be a suicide. I mean, think about it if she wanted to kill herself, couldn't she have done it in her hostel? Wouldn't she have at least wanted to see her family one last time before doing so?

Police should look into it further, it really sounds more like murder..

THE FIRST WORD COMES FROM ANYONE WHO ATTEMPTED SUICIDE IS HELP ME, I DONT WANT TO DIE, ITS OBVIOUS THAT SHE WOULD HAVE TRIED TO RESCUE HERSELF AFTER THE ATTEMPT, THE GROUND SO CLOSE TO HER THAT I FEEL SHE COULD'VE RESCUED HERSELF EASILY. I THINK AS PER THIS PICTURE IT CLEARLY SHOWS ITS NOT A SUICIDE CASE. HATS OFF TO DAIJIWORLD TO COLLECT THE PICTURES ON SPOT.

Her legs are so close to the ground and the tree branch where the shawl is tied is on quite height, how she can reach there???
Ground is much close tho her legs gives the impression - its not she who hanged herself but somebody else..!!!!
If she wanted to end her life , she could have done this anywhere else also. WHY KADRI PARK ONLY???

NEED PROPER INVESTIGATION BY COPS AND SUPPORT FROM YOUTH MOVEMENTS.

Generally police are hesitant to register the case of rape, murder since each police station would like to show that their police station has lesser crimes than the others. This will help to improve their records.

Why are they in the police force if they are not interested? From above words of police, it seems like they have already closed the case as "suicide"!!!!
Is someone who is in politics involved? Then I can understand behaviour of police..
Those cards fallen .. but looks like neatly kept there by someone..

I have a suggestion for girls\ladies who are using mobile - if you come across a person harassing - describe the person on your mobile - whether she knows him or new to her and store the msg. It will be helpful during investigation, in case the lady is attacked and injured\unconscious...

If there were scratches on her chest, there are 2 possibilities.

    1. She scratched herself. (If the bee had in fact stung her before her death)
    2. It was done by someone else. Probably the killer

All you need to do is take DNA samples from underneath her nails and test them. If its her DNA then she has scratched herself. If the DNA does not match hers, then who so ever it belongs to can be considered as the prime suspect here.

    Dear Daijiworld,

Kindly note one thing that I find suspicious is that if at all she wanted to commit suicide she could have hanged herself even at her hostel..there was no reason for her to come to that deserted place which I know very well is not safe at all.

Second is that its not that easy to hang oneself on a tree without any stool or chairs to tie the veil which she has used and later to hang down...moreover no suicide letter too...kindly investigate through her call records and other sources cos an innocent life might have been lost due to somebodys mistake...Please...
