Mangalore: J R Lobo appointed vice-president of district Congress

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangalore

Mangalore, Mar 6: J R Lobo, former city commissioner who joined Congress last year in July, has been appointed the vice-president of district Congress.

The announcement was made by district Congress president Ramanath Rai as per the directions of KPCC chief Dr Parameshwar.

Lobo, who has been seen as a strong contender for the upcoming Karnataka Assembly poll, officially joined Congress on July 28, 2012, amidst a party meeting that had turned chaotic after protest from some of the party workers.

Congrats Mr Lobo for becoming the VP of the DK area. Now for first real job is to see what you will do with the new Congress corporators of MCC and the other areas of DK going to the polls tode.
The last bunch did not do anything of note and the one from Ward 19 literally dissapeared after a few months of getting elected.
Lets see your skills Mr VP as the other office bearers are near non starters

I met JR lobo many years ago on account of some work at the corporation office when he was the commissioner. I had never known him before. He was respectful, he came across as a soft spoken and Intelligent gentleman, who went out of his way to help me. He was very well known for making the corporation very responsive to the people and people could directly approach him if they faced any issues when he was the commissioner. There was not a speck of corruption about him when he served the people of Mangalore as their commissioner, which is in itself and achievement.

He has continued the some good administration in Pilikula and made it an excellent place for all Mangaloreans.

I cannot think of anyone more deserving to represent all Mangaloreans now than JR Lobo. We do not need rabble rousers or noise makers right now in Mangalore, we have had enough of them, we need a man of some achievements, intellect and caliber, and JR Lobo is a good man who respects all Mangaloreans.

Mr.Ivan D'souza is a capable and well deserving Candidate for the Mangalore South constituency. He has risen to this level by his own efforts and from grass root level. He has given unconditional encouragement to all the people around him. Meantime the leaders like Mr.J.R.Lobo who has lot experience should support and guide our young leaders. Last time Mr.Ivan rose close to winning position. If all our own community leaders had supported him last time Ivan would have definitely won and it would have been a win-win situation for all of us.

I congratulate J.R Lobo, and to add further, I am a well wisher of Ivan D’souza and J R Lobo,I like both of them, but I know exactly who is good for what, at this point to maintain balance between the communities we want someone competent more than anyone else for a MLA’s Job, I know it could look injustice to Ivan D’souza and supporters for his seniority in the party and all that he has done to see a opportunity that has arise now, but the comparison would be like a employee working for A organization for many years not being preferred to give promotion and a new comer is, because of being more competent for a particular Job and purpose of appointment. To put things in right perspective, there are many Ivan Souza’s in the party to maintain balance we need many more J.R Lobo’s,let alone the cast, creed. He is the most diverse and the man who can think out of the box for the betterment of Mangalore and all its residents, I am quite confident he can make Mangalore,Inc. shine.

if i remember correctly about 10-15 years ago when i was still a teenager Mr.J R Lobo came to his native parish Gurpur Church and spoke a few words on the Altar. He had tears in his eyes if i recall correctly.I dont remember what he spoke but i surely know he had tears of happiness and joy .The place once where he lived and spent time he came back and stood at the same place with higher authority and still not forgetting this special place made him emotional i guess. The church had proudly recognized his service back then.i wish you good luck Sir.May you lift the name of Mangalore to newer heights and build a peaceful city.

In India, political arena is abode of lawyers. I fail to understand why majority of politicians are lawyers? Society needs leaders from every domain of existence. Public offices MUST have resourceful people from ALL streams. Society needs people from science, art, commerce, humanities, ... backgrounds to truly represent democratic values n ideas. Working for public good and securing future for posterity is in the hands of leader - who is capable, visionary n implements vision into mission. This needs dedication n sacrifice, without getting lured by money n power.

People are fed up with politics of loot n exploitation. Politics is business these days. Indian political system nurtures nepotism, crime, accumulation of public wealth through unfair methods. We have become used to such a system. People must be educated about politics of their own well-being! People who stand for values n ethics are suitable to become leaders. To live and survive in rotten system for someone like Mr.Lobo is tough. Politics of - education, health, jobs, prosperity, clean environment, tourism, public good - is the language we want to hear n getting these to implement. WE demand accountability n just leadership. Mr.Lobo works silently and tirelessly, without advertising himself. This is rare to see these days. His life is the message. Hope he can make heaven out of hell for future generations of Mangalore in his own limited capacities. May almighty grant him strength to make peoples lives better. Having more number of critics is a healthy sign. Mr.Lobo has to face all disgruntled voices and listen to voices of the voiceless. My best wishes for Mr.Lobo for being the voice, face and hope of many innocent citizens. All the best.

Please conduct a video interview with Mr. J R Lobo so that we public who doesn't know him understands his views on various issues. The things that I want to know from Mr. J R Lobo:
    1. What is his vision for Mangalore ?
    2. Will he be just a Christian leader or will he work for the cross section of the society ?
    3. Will he be selfish enough to seek a Congress ticket for Mangalore South or would he support and endorse the candidature of Mr. Ivan D'Souza, who worked hard in the last 5-6 years? If Ivan gets the ticket will he work for Ivan to help him win the elections or will he take a back seat?
    4. What development works he will introduce to Mangalore ?
    5. What are his views on polarizing views of other parties?
    6. What are his views on rising attacks on women in Mangalore ?
    7. What he will do protect the pluralistic culture of our Mangalore ?
    8. What are his views on expansion of Mangalore Airport?

and I also request other Daijiworld leaders to help me with more questions, if you think we need to know more about J R Lobo..

    Amar,

I agree with you that many don't know the achievements of J R Lobo.. and I fail to understand why all of sudden Ivan is considered outsider. When Mangalore needed a leader, it was Ivan who stood for Catholics during the famous church attack, it was Ivan who led the protest during the pub attack.. He has so many ideas and he understands the pulse of the youth. I have nothing against J R Lobo, but he should support Ivan for Ivan's hard work as a Congress member. Even though Ivan joined Congress a few years back, when we needed a leader from Congress to stand up, it was Ivan. So why should I give my vote to J R Lobo now. Ivan lost the last elections.. but he deserves another chance just for being the leader he is today. We need someone who can be there at difficult times..

I want J R Lobo to recognize Ivan's strengths and continue to serve the party as vice president without any ambitions for party ticket.

I welcome the entry of J R Lobo, but I want Ivan to contest the elections... I strongly feel that Ivan deserves the ticket since he worked hard for the party in the last 5-6 years... If anybody who raised a voice against whatever bad happened in Mangalore it was either B. Janardhana Poojary or Ivan D'Souza. I am not questioning the credentials of J R Lobo as a politician, however I don't see him as a leader for Mangalore yet..

Vinay Kumar Sorake should get the Lok Sabha seat and Ivan D'Souza should get the South Mangalore seat.

Though we need clean politicians, we also need leaders and for me J R Lobo is not a leader yet.. He needs to work for the common people in his capacity the vice president for few years.. this time my support is for Ivan.. and Ivan truly deserves the seat the way he worked. Those who jump to the conclusion that J R Lobo should get the seat, should be fair to Ivan.

Now that J R Lobo has been appointed as the vice-president of district Congress, I urge J R Lobo to make sure he supports Ivan D'Souza's candidature for South Mangalore MLA seat.

In the last 5-6 years, Ivan D'Souza has worked hard for the party and we can't just give a ticket to J R Lobo to contest elections. J R Lobo should talk to Ivan D'Souza and should support Ivan's candidature. We need young politicians from Congress to take over Mangalore. Most of the congress workers are either lawyers and if not then at least graduates.Mr.Lobo is a KAS officer and this proves that congress is the most popular party. There should be a minimum educational qualification requirement to contest any election right from the corporator level.

Something makes me feel that looking at Mr Lobo, he looks one gentlemen who would not stoop to Chindhi politics like most of the local Mlore congi Pudaaris. The only another good congressmen in Mlore he did not get his dues is Mr Suresh Ballal.

Politics is CALLING for public service!
Those honest to the lord will be fair to everyone irrespective of any kind of social barriers.
THOSE FIGHTING FOR POST, ARE SURELY SELFISH! THEY ARE ALREADY EXPOSED!
Be it Congress or BJP, they should do cleansing act in their party interest as well as national interest.
Replace all bad characters and install good ones in a pragmatic way and make way for righteous to come to political life!
    NOTHING IS IMPOSSIBLE!

Mr.J.R.Lobo is stated to be a good person with clean record and knows indepth of mangalore city.It is a mute question why choose Congress party which is the most corrupt and responsible for multi mega scams in the country. He may feel hat Congress is a secular party. But all most all partiesin the country by and large secular in nature.(Except JDS)What he intends to potray about Congress party. As far as mangalore Assy seat is concerned Congress has suffered heavy due to its ignoring majority community and excessive depenence on minority votes here since years by leaders like Janardhan Poojary. This is very much clear the recent contravercy regarding dress code issue and Vijayanath Vittal Shetty who was in his usual safforon dress in party meeting.Shetty may be repenting now for having joined such a party and to be in amongst leaders like here.
