"I regard this as one of the best railway budget in the recent past," he stated, adding, "I personally thank him (Bansal) for giving proper place for the Karnataka state in his budget proposals. He is kind enough to consider favourably most of my proposals."

He also thanked Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh and chairperson of UPA Sonia Gandhi on behalf of the people of Karnataka for addressing their concerns.

Udupi: Railway Yathri Sangha expresses disappointment

Daijiworld Media Network - Udupi (SM)

Udupi, Feb 26: “Mangalore-Madgaon intercity and Bangalore-Mangalore Express once a week are not enough for the coastal district. There is a requirement of at least six to seven trains, forwarded to the central government before the announcement of Budget- 2013.

R L Dias, president, Railway Yathri Sangha, told Daijiworld, “The budget is not at all satisfactory and we expected more. The worst part is there was no one to speak on behalf of the coastal region. It was as if the central government is not aware of the coastal districts and our demands.”

S H Thonse, member, Railway Yathri Sangha, said that Bangalore to Mangalore Express should be extended up to Udupi. “As far as the coastal belt is concerned, Udupi is the center for tourism and education, so fulfilling the requirement is a must. The representatives did not take responsibility or take any interest in getting the facility extended for us,” he added.

“It is clear that the Budget- 2013 announced on Tuesday February 26 does not benefit the district much and the representatives chosen by us have not contributed anything worthy. There are many trains starting from Karnataka but then go to others states. This will only benefit them and not the people of Karnataka,” added Thonse.

Just another political winking during coming elections. These trains are maglev trains(No tracks). Readers dont get fooled at this budget. The mangalore- bangalore train didnt run for 8 years after announcement in budget. Public teach a befitting lesson to congress leaders in coming municipal and state elections. The train extension to karwar happened because of High court and not congress. Verappa moily and his nephew(Bhaskar K, rowdy corporator of 36 ward) are planning dirty moves against mangalore peaceloving people.I being a coastline lover hurt by the congress government overall.

“CST-Mangalore express has less stops and its running time is FASTER than Mathsyagandha”…

Sir, Mathsyagandha has 24 halts including source & destination stations, consumes approximate running time of around 15 hours. But CST-MAJN has only 12 stops including source & destinations, consumes 13.5 hours!! What is the use of Faster…? Difference of 1.5 hour!! By giving stop at Kundapura 2 stations in Coastal Karnataka nothing will affected to its speed… another half an hour is immaterial. Absolutely there is no issue to office workers even if its reach Mumbai at before 5.30-6.00 am.

Happy to see this Rail Budget in some way is benifitting the Costal belt of Karnataka. But the core issues which are really requiered for the RAILWAY DEVOLOPMENT of our region are:
    1. Mangalore should at any cost,be seperated from the Palghat Division of Kerala and included in the South Western Railway Zone.

    2. As CST-Mangalore express has less stops and its running time is FASTER than Mathsyagandha,it should be STARTED from Mangalore Central and extended upto Subramanya. As the TIMING of this Train is PERFECT it reaches Mumbai CST at 4:30 a.m morning which doesn waste a day n really benifits office goers who reach bck Mumbai.

3.Yeshwanthpur-Karwar DAY train should move to Mangalore Central instead of Mangalore Junction and Thokur-Bhatkal DEMU should also start from Mangalore Central.
IT IS REALLY REDICULOUS AND DISCRIMINATION TO THE CORE AGAINST MANGALOREANS WHERE THE RAILWAY STATION LIES IN OUR LAND AND SHOULD HAVE BENIFITTED MANGALOREANS BUT "TRAINS" THAT BENIFIT US OR WHICH ARE USED BY US ARE NOT ALLOWED TO REACH OUR STATION WHICH IS ON OUR "LAND",OUR RIGHT IS SNACHED BY THIS PALGHAT DIVISION JUST FOR THE ONLY REASON OF ALLOWING TRAINS USED BY THE MIGRANT PASSENGERS OF KERALA INTO MANGALORE CENTRAL,AND STILL OUR MP'S DONT HAVE B@LLS TO SPEAK ABOUT THIS INJUSTICE.

4.The NEW Hyderbad (Kacheguda)-Mangalore weekly train should hav moved in the Arsikere-Chitradurga ROUTE to Hyderbad instead of moving towards Kerala-Coiamotore and then HYDERBAD.If moved in the Arsikere-Chitradurga ROUTE it would have saved a lot of time(save approx 400 kms) and it would benifit the people of North Karnataka plus a DOUBLE BENFIT TO MANGALOREANS apart from having a faster connectivity to Hyderbad,it would have a direct connectivity from Bellay,Hassan and Chitradurga to Mangalore.
THERE IS NO DUMB LOGIC,WHEN YOU HAVE TO MOVE TOWARDS HYDERBAD WHICH IS IN THE NORTH OF MANGALORE BUT THE TRAIN MOVES TOWARDS KERALA WHICH IS IN THE SOUTH.
MANGALOREANS WAKE UP TO STOP THIS INJUSTICE.

Acording to Mr. Raghu Salin's logic, it is better to close down all stations of costal Karnataka and passenger should go to Kerala to catch rajdhani or other trains.. This would also be a chance for the people of Dakshina Kannda to see God's own country!!!
Final conclusion: God has given us some thing known as BRAIN.. Use it atleast some times!!

Our representative has done good work by having intercity train from mangalore to madgaon. Now they should see that double track between mangalore to madgaon and then to roha, this will help for development economy wise and growth of coastal will boost especially tourism for all four state.Even south kanara traveller become easy if it is taken double track on this route.Next step should be electrification on coastal train the time of travel will reduce and single day a passenger can reach mangalore.

    Dear Dinesh (Kundapura / Blr),

Mathsyagandha leaves Mumbai at 03.20 pm that is OK & But if you look at CST-MAJN which leaves Mumbai CST at 10.15 pm, there is gap of approximate 7 hrs. Definitely it can be reduced by 2-3 hrs which will benefit maximum.
As you have pointed out regarding “suits office workers”: I have been based at Mumbai since 1991 & have been served to right from Ownership Co/Pvt Ltd/Public Sector & currently (from last 7 yrs) with multinational FIG. It’s almost 22 years and off course I am frequent traveler (~10-15 times in year) to my native too.

Visiting native to during vacation any train is OK, but during our tight & hectic schedule - whenever I have gone through CSTM-MAJN not managed to attend important functions as well as could not achieved the targeted work like Govt Office / Court issues on week-end Saturday. YOU CAN NOT RESTRICT TO SINGLE DAY. Like me many are still depending on luxury buses… (Flight is too expensive).

I cannot defend my earlier words “this train maximum occupied by Keralites” I do not have exact data. I have travelled 5-6 times on this train & somewhat I have presumed while observing co-passengers…

    Rgds,

CST-MAJN timing is perfect. It best suits for the people who finish their day duty and to board the train. May be they can start 1 hour early from Mumbai. This train is full of marathis (till ratnagiri) and kannadigas, not keralites.

For others we have matsyagandha train. Office workers cannot board this train at 3:30 PM at Mumbai.

Mr. Chandrashekar , Basrur, If this intercity train has to stop at every station then we may have to call it a " passenger " train like the present Mangalore - Madgao fast passenger train. On the Konkan route, there are a variety of trains plying. So why bother. Take what has been given.

There are 23 Railway Stations in Coastal Karnataka. For inter-city train no one has told to give stop at all stations. Earlier train Jana-Shatabdi Madgaon-Mangalore having similar stops (Karwar/Udupi) got cancelled because of poor revenue collection issues…

I really unaware of current appetite of said cities!!

The Madgaon-Mangalore intercity express (daily) will halt at Udupi and Karwar… Only depending on Mangalore / Udupi / Karwar & Madgaon stop is not enough to run train from revenue perspective. In Kerala all express trains have halt within approx 25 Km gap. Why not same equation applicable for us? Suratkal / Kundapura / Bhatkal & 2 more should be considered in Coastal Karnataka during initial stage only.

“… representatives chosen by us have not contributed anything worthy”. Agree & it’s a genuine statement by Yatri Sangha. This is not the 1st instance & historically it’s happening like that only.

Forget new trains or new facilities, our existing trains are in such mode we Coastal people do not use 100%. Best example is Mumbai CST-Mangalore Junction Express (12133/34) which is occupied by Kerala Travellers. Reason is –

    a. Its runs in very odd time (runs late suitable for Kerala people) and reaches Mangalore in next day afternoon. So people cannot attend any sort of important functions nor manage to complete targeted work on same day. People prefer to reach native or Mumbai morning hrs around 8.00-9.00am, they do not want to waste a day for no reason, so accordingly re-scheduling of timing is necessary.

    b. To increase Karnataka utilization rate of this train, need to give halt at some more stations are Kundapura and Bhatkal OR Murdeshwara. Last stop for this train Mangalore Junction is not suitable for maximum people. So it is better to give final stop at Mangalore Central instead of Mangalore Junction to benefit maximum Mangaloreans.

Readers should remember that about 5 years back, they had started a Janshatabdi express from Madgoan to Mangalore, with limited number of stops like Udupi, Karwar etc. Since passengers failed to utilize its service, the train taken off within a year, despite of its connectivity to Dadar Janshatabdi from Madgoan. Unless the newly introduced intercity from Madgoan to Mangalore has enough stoppages like Mulki, Udupi, Kundapura, Bhatkal, Honnavar, Kumta, Karwar etc. it will receive the same fate as the previous. In fact, there was a need of morning passenger train from Vasco to Mangalore via Madgoan, Karwar.

It would have helped many passengers like Mangalore-Verna passenger train.
Since Mangalore central station is still suffocating in the hands of Keralites, all trains which should have originated from Mangalore central are getting kicked like CST- Mangalore Jn & Bhatkal-Thokur DEMU. mangaloreans will never get benefitted. Instead why cannot they thrown few of Kerala bound trains from Mangalore central station? that is either should start from ullal or mangalore jn? Why step mother treatment to konkan bound trains? Does weekly Bagalore train benefit anybody? It would have wise to extend it to Chennai via Bangalore. In addition, there is a need of train from Mangalore central to Ahmedabad via Mumbai which will benefit those who travel to North Mumbai & costal Gujrat. Whatever may be there is a lack of vision in announcing new trains. Instead of wasting your time politicizing the issue, it is high time people of costal Karnataka join and put pressure on central govt & Railways. If not all our trains will go to Kerala or Bihar!!!!

most of the important demand is ignored for karnataka from past 16 year only because there is no proper representation of political leader irrespective of party line. Bangalore is one of very important city but there is no proper connectivity to rest of india no fast train is introduced which is expected.
only 10% of corruption and mismanagement if stopped railway network can be improved 50% more from existing position.
our government should learn lesson from china how they improved Rail network today. At time of independence we were 40% in Rail network they were 25% and today they are 90% we are 50%.
so every indian citizen should vote for proper political party to avoid this type humilation

What would have happened if M'lore – B'lore weekly express was run daily and extended up to Udupi? What would have happened if daily intercity express to Madgaon was extended to Vasco? The minister seems to have ignored the fact that Udupi is now fast growing as an educational hub in the state. There is already a daily passenger service to Verna via Madgaon. Vasco on the other hand is the biggest city in Goa with proximity to both the seaport and the only airport in the state.

Hundreds of Buses are plying daily between Bangalore - Mangalore and the Railways think of running ONE TRAIN PER WEEK and the Railways think that the passengers will eagerly wait for this weekly train. WHAT A CHILDISH IDEA?????

    Dear Congress,

Don't think people will blindly vote for you just because BJP's misrule. We will teach you a very good lesson to you in the assembly election.

Except Weekly Mangalore train (thank god, it is not monthly, in a busy passenger route..!) and Mangalore intercity, no train is beneficial for Karnataka. North Karnataka has been completely ignored. And all other trains starts from Karnataka and runs via other states.

We thought our state would get good share this time since congress minister was going to present the budget. But ultimately it is BIG ZERO. We will not forget this when we go out to vote in May. Wait and watch.

Provisions made in the budget for the coastal districts are not enough. It was expected to introduce Mangalore-Hyderabad (via) Bangalore express daily. Disappointed. Even Bangalore-Karwar day train has not been extended for daily. Bangalore- Mangalore weekly express is not enough as there is rush in every trains running between two cities. Presently train takes 12 hrs journey between two cities. This can be reduced by rescheduling the time table.

Thanks for the good budget. P.K. Bansalji should also concentrate on women safety in train.
I think there should be different cabin for the women like METROs.
