Baby born mid-air, Filipino mother concerned

Kolkata, Feb 19 (IANS): A Philippines national who gave birth to a baby girl out of wedlock on board a flight is worried about her daughter's future.

Kyamko Jina Sepulvuda, who gave birth to the child on board the Manila-bound Emirates Airlines flight from Dubai Feb 7, is concerned about the baby, who is currently being monitored in a private hospital in the city.

"The father has been informed. He has said he will help to take care of the baby but I am not sure what will happen in the future," Sepulvuda, 30, told IANS.

Sepulvuda, who went into labour mid-air, was admitted to the Charnock Hospital of Kolkata after pilots of the Emirates flight EK 332 made a priority landing at the Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport following the birth of the infant aboard the aircraft.

"The mother was fine when she came in as she had a normal delivery. The baby was alright too. On the second day, the baby contracted an infection but she is fine now," Ipsita Kundu, general manager of Charnock Hospital, told IANS.

Kundu added: "Sepulvuda was discharged from the neo-natal care unit yesterday (Monday). Both are medically fit to travel."

Sepulvuda wants to return to Manila "as soon as possible" and is awaiting travel documents for the child to be issued.

"I hope my relatives will accept the child," Sepulvuda said.

"We are awaiting the travel documents to be issued by the authorities in Delhi. It will arrive in a day or two, after which the baby can be repatriated to the Philippines," an official of the Philippines consulate here told IANS.

Isn't it asking to compromise too much in her position or situation?? - R. Bhandarkar

Mr. Bhandarkar..don't think that this lady didn't know the consequences. If the kid was born in Dubai, she would have been in jail and would have been deported to her home county. Thats the reason she was returning to Philippines. Many Philipino ladies do the same thing in Dubai. I don't think she was made to compromise and she too is equally responsible. She should have thought of consequences before. Now it is of no use of crying.

    @Ajay....
Hmmmmm-In that act(Your reference) which I think is
called 'sensual'in a broader sense, not many will be in their senses.....
The books tell...Everyone down the ages have told....Why hold it against the poor Filipino lady? Why should she only weigh or bother about the 'pros and cons' while in the act? Isn't it asking to compromise too much in her position or situation??

Everybody knows the tricks played by these philipino ladies staying in Dubai. They just need American or UK and will try to do anything for them. Now this mother is worried about the future of her kid. When she was in act, that time was she not in senses?

    Filipino mother concerned? Why now?
    Because the baby borne? Ridiculous!
She should have had concerns before.
But let the mother and the child be safe, for the child to have safe future, for it is not the mistake of the child to be born out of Wedlock!

We pray that both the mother and baby are fine after she gave birth to a baby in mid-air on a Emirates flight from Dubai to Manila. The crew on board did a wonderful job.

She is lucky that she exited UAE by that time. Else, she would have landed straight into a jail. I wonder despite knowing about strict laws in UAE, why people risk their freedom.

Wish her good luck and good health to the baby.
