Mangalore, Feb 16: The foundation stone for the new state-of-the-art campus of Prestige International School was laid by former union minister and AICC general secretary Oscar Fernandes at Jeppinamogaru here on Saturday February 16.

The new logo of the School was unveiled by union minister for minority affairs K Rehman Khan.

In his address, Rehman Khan said that a better educated country will be able to stand up and face any social issue. "But for this, it is our duty to compulsorily give the required education and thereby strengthen the future of our nation. Even though there are many education institutions in our country, on the whole, the number is comparitvely less. Hence, the social service work done by Hyder of Prestige Group by opening the educational institutions is laudable," he said.

"The Muslim community is comparatively backward in terms of education. When a community is backward in education, it is detrimental to the progress of the nation, hence the government has introduced various schemes to ensure education for minorities and educationally backward communities. Students from primary to PhD have the facility to receive scholarships under these schemes, and I urge everyone to make the right use of it," he added.

"The Muslim community in Dakshina Kannada is well educated, especially the women. In this regard, Dakshina Kannada is a role model to the entire country," he said.

Speaking after laying the foundation stone, Oscar Fernandes said that India is known for its intelligent and young population. "Our nation is looked up to by other nations as the majority of people in India are youngsters. In order to enable youngsters to mould their talents, education is very important right from childhood. Such healthy education is rendered to society by Prestige International School," he said.

"The union government has been working on improvisation of education system in the country by introducing free education, compulsory education and also with the Right to Education Act to ensure that education is accessible to every individual in the country. Not just the government, but each and every individual must know his or her responsibility in terms of providing and seeking education," he said.

Mayor Gulzar Banu, former minister Krishna J Palemar, MLA B Ramanath Rai, Yenepoya University Chancellor Y Abdullah Kunhi, Badruddin, Nagendra, Raviraj Shetty, Ibrahim Kodijal, Ivan D’Souza, J R Lobo, former MLA Vijay Kumar Shetty and others were present.
