Udupi, Feb 16: "There is no peace in society because of fights in the name of religion and politics. As per Sanathana Dharma, religion should control politics but these days as politics has tried to control religion, there exists fight between religions. When people of all religions come together and fulfil their religious duties, it is possible to bring back peace," said Sri Sugunendra Theertha Sripadha, Matadeesha of Udupi Sri Puttige Math.

He addressed the gathering after inaugurating the religious and cultural programme organized on the occasion of Brahmakalashotsava at Sri Durgadevi temple at Kunjarugiri on Thursday February 14.

"To the outer world we organize Brahmakalashotsava but such 'Brahmakalasha' should take place every person’s heart. I wish the Brahmakalashotsava taking place in this temple brings peace to all," said Swamiji.

Blessing the occasion, Sri Vishwapriyatirtha Sripada of Sri Admar Math said that goddess Durga at Kunjar temple helps every devotee in times of need. He expressed his gratitude for inviting heads of different religions and said it has sent an example to the whole world.

Bishop Gerald Lobo of Udupi diocese said religion should protect people and instill peace and unity among people. The concept of peace and harmony in this religious programme is laudable and a role model to all of us, he said.

Moodbidri religious head Maulana H I Abu Sufian said no religion has ever promoted communalism. "There is no peace in society as communalism is mixed with politics. Religious institutions of different communities should work on promoting harmony," he said.

Venkataramana Mujjinthaya, president of renovation committee welcomed the gathering, Mohan Das Shetty, Sudhakar Shetty compered while secretary Rajendra Rao compered the programme.

Ida Gibba D’Souza, zilla panchayat member, Precilla D’Mello, taluk panchayat member, Bhuvanesh L Poojary, Kurkal gram panchayat president among others were present.

I was carefully going through the comments made by enlightened persons like Cyril Mascarenahs, Juliet Mascarenahs, Daniel, Vasanth Raj, Peter Pereira, Clifford, Thomas Richard, Melwyn Pinto, Doddanna and others and it seems to me that all agree and uphold the principals of Sri Sugunendra Theertha Sripadha, Matadeesha of Udupi Sri Puttige Math and are unanimous with regard to their views. Let us therefore bury the hatchets and work for a common cause PEACE AND HARMONY and let these be our PASSWORDS for happy and peaceful lives in an atmosphere of LOVE AND UNDERSTANDING.

When people of all religions come together and fulfill their religious duties, it is possible to bring back peace," said Sri Sugunendra Theertha Sripadha, Matadeesha of Udupi Sri Puttige Math.

What a wonderful statement by Sri Sugunendra Theerta Sripadia Matadeesha. Before we try to divide ourselves in terms of religion, we should first think that we are all children of Mother Earth. No caste or creed should come in the way of keeping us united.. It is my sincere hope that the concept outlined by Srigunendra Theertha is followed by all which would indeed help all to live like a family dispelling any kind fears or inhibitions.

What is great and inspiring is to see Our Bishop Gerald Lobo freely participating in the ceremony and what is more is that he is identifying himself as an integral part of a family. He is a role model of a religious head and a TREND SETTER. Let us all follow his example and try and walk in his footsteps.

Kudos to you Bishop Gerald and may YOUR BREED INCREASE.

Salute you great leader of Sri Sugunendra Theertha Sripadha, Matadeesha of Udupi Sri Puttige Math for your very, very sensible statement. Unlike other Swamiji's who blindly uphold baseless 'conversion' topic & create rift between different communities, your statement proves your longing for peace and unity. May God bless you sir !

I have great respect for Sri Sugunendra Theertha Sripadha and he has the sentiments of a true religious leader who is interested in peace and harmony among fellow human beings. My humble request to him is to get rid of all politicians who will be soon visiting temple to exploit votes in coming election.
