Justice Y. Bhaskar Rao appointed as Lokayukta of Karnataka

Bangalore, Feb 13 (IANS) : Former chief justice of Karnataka High Court Y. Bhaskar Rao will Thursday take over as the state's Lokayukta (ombudsman), filling up the post lying vacant for over 17 months.

Governor H.R. Bhardwaj will administer the oath of office to Rao at Raj Bhavan, an official release said. Rao, 75, succeeds former Supreme Court judge Shivaraj V. Patil, who quit as Lokayutka in September 2011, about a month after taking over, following a row over owning two housing plots in Bangalore allegedly in violation of law.

Rao, who hails from Andhra Pradesh, was chief justice of the Karnataka High Court between March 1999 and June 2000. The Bharatiya Janata Party government, headed by Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar, has gone ahead with Rao's appointment rejecting opposition to it by the Advocates Association of Bangalore (AAB).

AAB president K.N. Subba Reddy said last week that when Rao's name was being considered by the government, Rao did not know Kannada language and there were allegations of irregularities when he was chief justice.

May be BJP appointed this Lokayukta of theirs,so late, just before their term of rule is coming to an end and there is very slim chances of their coming back to power for the next term.
As such they have appointed "THEIR" person to that post, who will be there, to serve them even when another party govt. comes to power!!!
They have to try everything to save their skin!!!!
Already allegations from none other than the AAB, which indicates, something is not alright at this appointment.
It is a sorry affair to note, after Mr. Hegde, Government cannot find a clean\suitable candidate to be the Lokayukta!!!

Finally Govt of Karnataka yielded to SC and public by appointing LOKAYUKTA.But the appointed Lokayukta is not free from allegations which is a point of concern. We should wait for another week or so, if in these days no new allegations cropped then only we can have a sigh of relief. Can we see speedy inquiry of DA/Corruptions of politicians in Karnataka?A answer from Lokayukta is eagerly waited by citizens of KARNATAKA..
