Mangalore, Feb 11: Konkani music lovers had a gala time on Sunday February 10 with young star of Konkani music Kevin Misquith and Milestone band presenting the 25th musical nite at St Agnes Special School Grounds.

Clad in dark silver suit, emerging from the rear screen, Kevin Misquith made a grand entry to the live concert, amidst rousing applause from thousands of music fans who had gathered to witness the show. The venue was  filled to capacity, with many having to stand throughout. Song after song they cheered and danced along, building up a festive atmosphere.

High voltage performances by young and energetic artistes completely floored the crowd. The different genres of music added much variety. Complementing Kevin and Milestone was young singer Munita Veigas and several
other young and prolific performers.

Songs like 'Mujya Aanja', 'Kedna Kedna, 'Kalza Thaar', 'Kan Kan', 'Thuka Chint Chinthana', 'Abole' and many others kept the crowd dancing and singing along.

There was a short stage programme held midway through the concert. Addressing the gathering, Konkani poet Melvyn Rodrigues said, “Constant hard work and dedication to music has enabled Kevin Misquith to reach this height. He has nurtured his ambition and aspiration to grow in the field of music."

Melvyn also congratulated Kevin for having successfully presented the 25th musical nite at a young age. “Over the years, I have closely watched Kevin's progress. Though Kevin himself is a lyricist, he had the humility to give music to the lyrics composed by other writers. Secondly, Kevin has a Konkani vision is his composition and moreover, his works are not just limited to Mangalore and Udupi districts but have reached people across the world," Melvyn said.

Marian D’Souza said, “There is a need to bring revolution in the Konkani music world. Importance should also be given to classical and patriotic music in Konkani songs. Such change is necessary."

Vicar var Fr Stany Goveas, Fr Ronald D’Souza, ICYM director, Dr Sunil, Rohan Monteiro, MD, Property Infratech, and Loy Noronha shared the dais.

'Pokri Kalakar' team added a generous dose of humour to the evening, while dance performances by the Nach Sobhann troupe accompanied the songs. Sheldon Crasta and Vernon D’souza compered the event. Antony Cony and family, Doha Qatar was the main sponsor.

    Kevin,

    Congratulations!!!!!!!!!!!!

I agree with Mr. Wilson Saldanha Kuwait.....

We need some one to come forward and save konkani Music.

If we have to save Konkani, then we need to revolutionise Konkani Music and make youngsters groove to the tune of Konkani Music.

See Maria Pitache of remo, still its played in parties and everyone dance to this Music.

Can anyone boast of one Konkani Song which could be played in par with this and everyone swings to it?

Then why are we still making CD just to please the critics?

can we do something for the masses and keep Konkani Music alive?

Well we are planning some thing in this regard... Hope we will come out with our Project soon.....

Just wish us the good luck and keep us in your Prayers... thats all we are asking from you guys.....

    Cheers to Konkani......

Alister, Mangalore well written the fact.

When Kevin came to Gulf, there were many controversies mentioning that he got applaud from his friends who made groups and cheered for him and were silent for senior Konkani singers. The fact is Kevin can not have that many friends abroad who can cheer for him to show others down.

The present generation needs something new in every field. We must encourage present generation to make new inventions and adopt new style in Konkani music. Ask any North Indian/ Hindi speaking friends who always says that all Konkani songs have same tune which is a fact. To keep Konkani alive in present generation, someone should come in front with some new concept which Kevin and his team has done. Most of his team members are teenagers or not yet married. Only a young team can bring young generation towards Konkani program.

As a part of some organisation, I know the difficulties to gather crowd for the Konkani shows. Respecting Konkani and Konkani artists should not be the only reason to attend Konkani Programs. Bringing something new and giving a mind blowing entertainment should be the aim of organizers and artists which will make the audience to feel worth for the penny they spent. Or else Konkani programs will become history within coming two three generations.

Hat's off to the young team and thanks to the sponsors who generously contributed to the program to encourage the young talents specially main sponsor Antony Cony and family. Being in Kuwait, I really missed the program. Hope to see Kevin along with his young team again in Kuwait who gave mind blowing songs during 2012 KCWA event.

Meantime I also remember and pay respect to Konkani legends Wilfy Rebimbus, Henry D'Souza, Melwin Paris, Eric ozario, Mick Max and many more who kept Konkani alive with their unforgettable lyrics and songs and guide the younger generation to carry on the same.

After being at the venue last night & after reading the report I have to write this- Whenever i have attended a konkani show I have always felt bored I always avoid atteninding konkani shows, It was only because last evening I was left nothing to do with & went to the concert that too only out of compulsion from my friends because i got a free ticket from them(I would never want to waste my money on boring konkani shows) but mannn let me tell you this is the first time I have ever enjoyed a konkani music concert.Though I watched for free it was worth buying a ticket, Kevin & Milestone YOU ROCK.!!
