Amma in Mangalore: 'Love and compassion can win over violence'

Mangalore, Feb 10: “Be compassionate, show your love to every soul. The present world is segregated in different ways but our goal should be to render love and care to all. The world is centered around love and one cannot escape from it,” said Mata Amritanandamayi Devi, fondly known as Amma, during Brahmasthana Mahotsava held on behalf of Amritha Sangama 2013 at Amritha Vidyalam, Boloor here on Sunday February 10.
After holding bhajan programme for more than two hours that made her devotees virtually float in spiritual ecstasy, Amma in her 'Satsanga' said colours in rainbow add beauty to rain, and the rainbow is formed by the union of seven colours. Music is incomplete if it is not played with 'raga' and 'tala'. A musician can play music with coordination of heart and mind, the heart is filled with music and the soul with an aim. Everything has its own beauty, the beauty of nature is replete with unity and equality, she said.
"Showing sympathy and concern towards the needy is perfect humanity. Everything gyrates with love, but the present human life is disconnected from love. In every sphere man is divided. He is losing his compassion towards others. Love and compassion can win over everything, be it violence, hatredness or cruelty. Present world is filled with terrorism, violence and natural disasters and so many other problems. The individual’s thought is filled with greed and selfishness and he is losing human values. Every person expects others to follow morality, but does not follow it himself," she said.
“In today's world aged parents are sent to old age homes, instead of being given love, care and sympathy. Joint families have been divided into nuclear families. In future if children do not get the love and care of grandparents then they will surely curse. There are people who do not have money to buy medicine. If a person wants to live his life happily he should stay away from alcohol and lust. Every individual should be satisfied with what he has,” she said.
“The younger generation is not aware of virtues like love, concern and compassion for othes. They fail to imbibe courage and spirituality in life. Only spirituality can lead an individual in the right path. We are now dwelling in segregated islands instead of living happily together. We should not be isolated islands but should become chains of relationships,” she added.
On this occasion Krishna Palemar, former minister, Amithakala, deputy mayor, Vijaykumar of Pollution Control Board, Ashokan of Security Services and Naryanan of Kavitha Residency felicitated Mata Amritanandamayi Devi.
Mata Amritanandamayi offered scholarships to 60 students and pension funds to devotees.
Ganesh Hosabettu, former mayor thanked the gathering.
Thousands of devotees flocked to the venue and sought Amma's blessings.
