Price of Nandini Milk to go up by Rs 4 per litre?

Price of Nandini Milk to go up by Rs 4 per litre?

Bangalore, Jan 22 (DHNS): In a move that would stretch household budgets even further, the Karnataka Milk Federation (KMF) on Monday decided to hike prices of all varieties of Nandini milk, including the commonly used single-toned milk, and curd by a flat Rs 4 per litre with effect from February 1.

However, the KMF can implement the price hike only if it is approved by the State government.

Reacting to the KMF’s decision, Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar said the government would announce its decision on the price hike after discussing the proposal during the next Cabinet meeting.

If the government approves the KMF’s decision, a litre of milk (single-toned) will go up to Rs 28 from Rs 24, while the cost of curd will increase from Rs 30 to Rs 34 per litre.

“The hike applies to all varieties of Nandini milk. We hope the government will give its approval and allow the KMF to implement the hike from February 1,” KMF chairperson G Somashekara Reddy told reporters after the KMF board meeting here.

A tough choice

With elections to the State Assembly fast nearing, the ruling BJP will now have to make a difficult choice. While an increase in the milk price will directly hit the consumers, any decision to defer the hike proposal will make dairy farmers unhappy.

Nandini milk price was last increased in January 2012. Dairy farmers have been demanding that the KMF increase the procurement price (price at which it buys from farmers) citing steep increase in input cost.

Many of the milk unions, too, are running under loss due to increase in their operational cost. Hence, the KMF board, comprising managing directors of all 13 milk unions, took an unanimous decision to hike the price, Reddy explained.

Asked what the KMF would do if the government refuses to give its nod, Reddy said the KMF is confident that the government will approve the decision in the interest of farmers. “The government may cut down the quantum of hike, but it will definitely not reject the price hike,” he said.

On increasing the procurement price, Reddy said the KMF had decided to leave it to the discretion of local milk unions.

Today, out of 120cr population, only a minuscule pay income tax!! That means only the working class are forced to pay! There is a myth that the farmers are poor across the board!! For agriculturists there is absolutely no IT liability with added multiple subsidies, loan waivers, etc.! One should not be under the impression that most of the farmers is anymore not a poor man!! With areca in the picture, they have become prosperous!! Milk is only an add on business to the farmer!!

The price of Nandini milk has been the same for years. Its high time it went up. This would benefit the farmers.Let us not be greedy at the cost of the poor farmer.

People spend money on unnecessary things like movies, KFC Chicken, Hamburgers from Cheffs, Ideal Ice Cream, designer clothing, beach festival, best of medical care etc etc. They should not be cribbing now.

Due to anti-cow slaughtering initiative, farmers have to take care of their cows even after they stop lactating. Farmers have to make up that cost by increasing the milk price.

If cow rearing is not feasible, there will be shortage of milk and either way the price will go up.

The anti-cow slaughtering bill should include buying the non-lactating cows by the government.

When this milk price rise heard by restaurant owners might have increase the price of one cup Tea/Coffee by 1 rupee which is more profitable to them.Whenever the prices of Sugar, Milk, Tea/Coffee powder prices marginally increses these restaurant owners increase the price within no time and when the price decreases the restaurant rates will remain the same. Ultimately the poor people are the sufferers from both the end. The Govt must look into this to control the restaurant prices.

One Middle class and lower middle class citizen income monthly
    6000 TO 15000
    Already Rice Rs 40 Milk 34,Suger 40
Very soon rice price will increase as well
What else left all price increased
Straight hit to Poor People stomach
Unless & until there is no proper agriculture growth , in state middle class and lower middle class and poor people will suffer.
Instead of running behind the different party try to get the facility and advantage from the state government had been provided for Agriculture.

Actually it's not the price of products going up, it is the value of money that is depreciating! The only way to tackle inflation is to introduce gold standard. i.e. Define the value of currency in terms of gold value, so that central bank cannot depreciate the currency value further.
