Mangalore, Nov 28: The rejection of the bail plea with regard to the arrest of mediaperson Naveen Soorinje is a live example of the declining justice system in the Dakshina Kannada district, said Justice Michael F Saldahna, addressing a press meet on behalf of PUCL, at Hotel Woodlands here on Wednesday November 28.

"I started my career as a mediaperson. There is no such rule that mediapersons should work as 'representatives' of police. Media helps in the removal of social evils in society," he said.

"There seems to be a strong political hand and even personal grudge by the police with regard to the case. There are doubts arising about the judiciary too, as Soorinje has also been rejected the bail plea," he added.

"The judicial system is to protect the public, but in DK, it seems like the judicial system is in the hands of some influencial persons, as evident by the charges and arrests of Soorinje and, earlier, Karavali Ale editor," he alleged.

"The local police also should be ready to face judicial suspension, similarly to the officials in Mumbai in connection to the arrest of the girl who posted comments on Bal Saheb Thackeray’s funeral in Facebook," he said.

P B D'sa, PUCL president, Walter Maben, vice-president, Suresh Bhat Bakrabail, Roshan Lobo and others were present.

This is not a religious issue nor BJP or Congress party issue.

Issue is about civil rights and liberty .

Issue is for arrest of Journalist, who exposed the Party makers and the radicals who organized the insensitive ruthless attack.

Public should be taken into confidence for the arrest and confinement of a journalist and ensure that he is not framed for exposing who is who.

Excuse me please... Even Lower Judges and Magistrates also ZERO in IPC or Indian Constitution.

    Best example –

Few years back over smart Judge send arrest warrant against President ( APJ Abdul Kalam ), Vice President and CJI ( Hon. Justice Khare )
In Bihar Lower court judge send issued Non bailable arrest warrant against toddler for rape.
Last week in Palghar a Magistrate send girls to police custody and released them on their personal bond.

Pre-Independent , Lawer and Magistrates/Judges used get very high respect. And now a days.........?????????

I had known Michael Saldhana during my college days early sixties and did see in him all the makings of a good leader. So, what if someone comments in his favour to be a Congress or whatever leader in the making? There is weight in his words unlike the crap one could see in his distractors.

Attackers are identified by the dress/jacket they wore than their face.

Dear Vivek, what George Belman, Mangalore said is correct. Though we have to support Naveen Soorinje against any Police action, but Naveen did also some mistake too that we can’t forget. Talking about Justice Michael Saldanha, indeed several of his judgments were dubious and overturned by higher court. So if you get support from person like Saldanha, it will mislead the public. One more thing Mr. Vivek, like you have doubt about George Belman’s name, few people like me too have doubt about your name too, may be you are Vivek D’souza or Mendoza, etc etc???

One that poor girl Sowjanya's Murder case, another this Reporter Naveen Soorinje case, Nice "Bhitti Prachara" for all the jobless jacks from Dhooma sene to some swamijis, to Poojary and some other local jobless congis and now this one here. all for the sake of Publicity. As winter is approaching, wherever people see fire they go there,"Chali Kaipere".
High court has already directed the police to show cause and the court is persuing the matter, these guys are just adding fuel to the fire by the backing of congis. If the police is wrong there is courts for people who believe in the law of the land. When local court denied bail, all shouted that local judjes were booked or sangh parivaar agents. When high court, ridiculed police action in the way they handled Navin Soorinje's case all said"Satyameva Jayathe". So Lets change the IPC and Judiciery that if the verdict is not delivered according to your opinion, then"Nyaayakke Kannilla". If its delivered the way you want then"Truth Prevails". This is our society.
Those guys do this Dombaraata inside the house because they are elected, and others do it outside because they are not elected , just "Bitti Prachaara".

Justice Michael Saldanha has rightly pointed out that Media helps in the removal of social evils in society. Hats off to you.
Naveen Soorinje took great courage and did that for the society.
Now it is civil society duty to support him when he NEEDS most. Evil is spreading, and wrong doers are emboldened because many RIGHTEOUS & INFLUENTIAL people are not actively taking part in opposing the wrong done,be it from ANYBODY.

And why pray should we trust and respect Justice Saldanha?

Wasn't Mr.Saldanha caught RED HANDED by Bangalore Mirror newspaper with photos of breaking traffic laws in Bangalore? In addition he illegally had a red light on top of his private car!

Live what you preach, Mr.Saldhanha. One should not forget that many of Saldanha's decisions as judge were dubious and were ultimately overturned.

So Mr.Saldanha is not exactly a shining diamond of honesty and integrity and has no right nor he is qualified to comment on every topic under the sun.

Mr. Naveen's Arrest is baseless I Cannot understand how the Police arrested by imposing the case i think there will be some invisible hands work and politicians. Today the Common man cannot live without fear because of this Corrupted Police & Politicians and criminals are open outside and they will fix any case on common man & put behind the bars.

Mr Navin Soorinje's arrest is nothing but EXTRAVAGANT.In Maha State,Govt made a mistake arresting two hapless FB commentators but in record time rectification has been done. BJP Govt in Karnataka is new as rulers (who remained oppn party for quite long time, used media in their favor)and still in learning process made a grave mistake by arresting Navin Soorinje which is not rectified till now.Navin was booked under harsh IPCs which gives little room to get bail!It is a revenge arrest by the police and in connivance with Govt.By the by BJP never digests those who speaks against it's weakness.Latest example is MR R.Malani!!

Gandhi fought against Britishes for freedom. Now the days have come for our own people to fight with our own judiciary system, politicians, court etc etc, for their own freedom and independence. Current situation made the people to live in fear of police, law, courts, lawyers and so on. May be because of this people avoid to help each other for fear of consequences.
