Mangalore, Nov 9: District level review committee meeting for banking development was held at zilla panchayat, here on Friday November 9.

J S Shenoy, deputy general of Syndicate Bank informed that the growth in the deposit of rural branches was nearly 41% surpassing that of branches in urban areas which registered growth of 28%. Market share of rural branches have increased while the urban and semi-urban shares have decreased.

He suggested that credit off take needs improvement in the district to achieve sustained CD ratio of atleast 60%.  The marketing business of DK has increased in the banking business of Karnataka from 4.45% in June 2011 to 4.93 in June 2012. The deposit growth of private sector bank was 79% and that of Karnataka Vikas Grameena Bank, the loan RRB of the district was 74%.

He also said that the farmers are not cooperating with bankers, when it comes to signing the documents they are not ready. This misunderstanding should be removed; RBI is boasting agricultural credit India. If the farmers do not cooperate then it is very difficult to achieve success. 

Dr K N Vijaya Prakash, CEO presided over the meeting. He said banking business in DK district surpasses Rs 34,600 cr, powered by a year deposit growth of 29.50% and advances growth of 22% contradicting the slow down factor. Banking sector in DK witnessed business growth of 27% achieving the level of Rs 34,645 cr. Deposits stood at Rs 22,874 cr and advances at Rs 11,771 cr. The credit deposited ratio which declined from past three years from 55.84 to 51.64.The rural branches are performing well compare to urban; the decision taken on goat farming has given good results.    

Hemanth Bide the lead district chief manager stated that in the implementation of district credit plan, disbursement Rs 1,053 cr has taken place against the first quarter target of Rs 1,225 cr. Under farm sector, disbursement was Rs 406 cr against the target of Rs 489 cr and under micro and small enterprise, the disbursement was Rs 95 cr against the target of Rs 99 cr. Under territory sector which includes education housing activities, disbursement was Rs 213 cr against the target of Rs 380 cr. Under non-priority sectors, banks have disbursed Rs 339 cr against the target of Rs 256 cr.

On the occasion, three goat-farming entrepreneurs Mumtaaz Hussain of Kepu, Shiva Kumar Pailoor of Ajjibettu and Keshava Gowda of Bajathur were honored.

Sittamma, rural development officer, Vijakumar from RBI among others were present.
