Mangalore, Sep 1: A rally followed by a protest condemning the attack on students at a birthday party in a Padil home stay on July 28, and against the continued attack by the moral police on the city's youth was jointly jointly by the Youth Congress, DYFI, Yuva Janata Dal, AIYF, NSUI, SFI, VJD(S) and AISFY, here on Saturday September 1.

The rally began from the Ambedkar Circle, Jyothi and culminated with the protest in front of the DC's office. Students who marched all the way from Jyothi gathered in large numbers to protest against the home stay incident.

Addressing the protestors, Mithun Rai of Youth Congress condemned the attack on youth by Hindu Janajagarana Vedike (HJV) activists in Padil's Morning Mist Home Stay on July 28. He shouted slogan against district incharge minister C T Ravi, Hindu outfits and other leaders of BJP.

"Goons and anti-social elements cannot infringe on the freedom of youth, and will be hit back on the spot if such attacks on youths continue. We will not give up our fight till the Goonda Act is invoked against Subash Padil, who led the team of attackers in Padil," he warned.

He said that like-minded groups have joined hands to work towards the elimination of anti-social elements from the society. "Youngsters aged between 18 and 24 are spending their precious time in jail because of Bajrang Dal and other such outfits," he said.

Referring to HJV's denial of any role in the attack a day after the incident, Munir Katipalla of DYFI said, "After attacking, these shameless outfits try to wash their hands of the matter by saying that it was not them."

He strongly condemned the saffron outfits for attacking youngsters in the name of culture and snatching away their freedom, and then trying to escape by denying their role in such attacks.

"BJP is in power in the state and the district. Why can't the BJP stop sex tourism and drug mafia which the outfits complain about? Anti-social elements are involved in hafta collection as well," he added.

Local leaders Ashith Pereira, Nitin Kuthar, Siraj, Shashiraj Shetty, Yogish Kumar Shetty Jeppu, Satish Bantwal, Ivan D’Souza, Sunil Kumar Bajal, Dayanand Shetty, Preetham and Praveenchandra Alva were present on the dais.

Whoever calls this protest useless or silly is insane. Whatever the reasons the rally is called for but this shows the strength the young have. Mangalore will not tolerate this goonda giri. We are intelligent and strong enough to protect our youngsters. If need comes all the religious heads should come together to restore the freedom of youngsters. Mentioning religious heads as politcal heads keep changing more frequently. As somebody mentioned the moral policing and goonda giri should be tackled then and there by the youngsters. All should be trained in self defence. This should be taught in school.

There should be certain rules and regulations to all colleges and Schools not to attend any procession against any incident happens outside the college premises. This will spoil the image of school/College and students. Principal /Head Master should take strict action against these students.Students duty is to study and not involve in this kind of Goonda/Illegal activities.

The people who forced these students to join this procession and who organized the rally should be booked under Goonda Act and debarred from the State .
There should be certain rules to be implemented to the political parties to follow, put all these inside the jail who are spoiling the image and peace in Mangalore

People, don't do a thing. Read the truth.

With the 'home stay' attack and the media attention globally, the business interests of those who finance 'hjv' and similar are hurt.

Had these 'people who matter' acted on all earlier occassions, things would not have come thus far. Behind the back, under the table, these goons were 'taken care' by the contributions of 'PEOPLE'.

Now, the business is getting tarred, and suddenly, they are using secular bodies to stop HJV. Don't. Let them stop their financing and automatically, HJV, will go back to active work.

Simple reason is violence has no place in their society. By looking at comments here down I get a feeling in Mangalore these BJP goondas who indulged in violence on students looks to be having sizeable support from their party .How is it possible we can support violence? Someone should have guided them then, not to do such deeds, if at all it is true. But why attack only on certain places, whereas such things are happening openly in Mangalore in other places...This is Democracy...bang... and fix someone else to fix who have attacked. This will be endless.. There should be proper descipline not enforce self made -REGULATIONS - as if all attackers are angels.
