Mangalore, May 30: Young writer and medical student Edmond Fernandes forayed into the world of literature on Wednesday May 30 with the release of his debut book 'Small Things That Matter Much', at St Aloysius College auditorium here on Wednesday May 30.

Addressing the gathering, Giselle Mehta, former bureaucrat and author, said that Edmond has positively tried to influence society through his book.

"Through his writing, he has enabled the cultivation of a healthy spirit and maintaining  personal equilibrium," Mehta added. Citing an anecdote about another book, she also said that one must choose a writer's path for its real value than for mere fame and money.

Speaking after the release, Dr Henry D’Souza, Bishop of Bellary, lauded the young and debutant author for his skills. "Small things look insignificant but they have intrinsic value. The book evokes the element of faith and I wish that it becomes a catalyst in dissemination of spiritual goodness," he said.

Presenting the synopsis of the book, Derrick Lobo, former regional adviser to World Health Organization, said that Edmond has developed the book from the inspiring quotes of legendary figures.

“In addition, he has expressed tidbits from incidents in his life highlighting the essential aspects of life, love, appreciation, values and principles, faith in God, and the possibilities in life beautifully,” explained Lobo.

He then congratulated Edmond for his impressive and inspiring debut book at a young age. Dr B K Ravindra, dean of Karnataka State Law University and chairman of SDM Law College, also spoke.

Dr Princy of Father Muller Hospital introduced Edmond while Elvira Rodrigues welcomed the gathering.

Edmond thanked the publishers ‘Dharti Pustaka’, co-sponsors, parents, dignitaries, and all those present on the occasion.
