Mumbai: International Preacher Fr Rufus Pereira No More

Mumbai, May 4: Well known Catholic charismatic preacher, vice-president of International Association of Exorcists passed away in London on Thursday May 3.

Fr Rufus Pereira performed exorcisms worldwide and has been the catalyst in bringing lay people into the deliverance ministry and the Catholic Church's closer cooperation with such groups.

In 1994 he was selected as vice president of the International Association of Exorcists which was started in 1993, and in 1995 initiated the International Association for the Ministry of Deliverance.

Fr Rufus Pereira was the man of self respect in the world of Christianity.

There seems no end to Church's woes as far as ‘Fathers own country’ is concerned. After ex-nun Sister Sandra tell-all book on the dark side of the convent life, it's now the turn of a former priest to expose what he claims ‘sexual anarchy among the clergy and the faithful’.

The book, 'Here is the heart of a Priest',Fr Rufus Pereira, who left the Vincentian congregation after 11 years, is autobiographical and slams the ‘indulgent and licentious life-style of a section of the clergy’.

Fr Rufus Pereira’s priestly vocation began in his family and parish in Bandra, India. However his first personal experience of the Catholic charismatic renewal was on Pentecost Sunday in 1972 – at the renewal’s beginning in India. Since then he has worked extensively in renewal and world evangelism ministries.

He has been editor of ‘Charisindia’, the national charismatic monthly, director of the National Charismatic Bible College and continued to be visiting post-graduate scripture professor at a Pontifical Theological Institute. In 1994 he was selected as vice president of the newly started International Association of Exorcists, Rome and in 1995 initiated the International Association for the Ministry of Deliverance.

He joined the ICCRS council in 1997 and represented Asia and the healing and deliverance ministries.

We are terribly grieved at the passing away of Fr Rufus Pereira.A living saint indeed. My family is indebted to him as he was always there for us when we were in trouble In fact Fr Rufus prayed over my son during most of his healing services in different places .My son had a massive stroke in july 2009 .It was Fr Rufus who prayed and his healing has been taking place since then .The day before he left India we met him at his house and he prayed over my family members.Little did we know that we would never meet him again. We will miss him immensely .May god grant him eternal rest and may his soul rest in peace

Fr.Rufus Pereira's editorial in Charisindia enriched the faith of all those who sought to delve into the depth of truth for the salvation of soul (immortality of soul i.e. to be in the presence of God after our death as preached by all) and he always stressed and prompted to all of us that we are under constant watchful eyes of Our Creator. In other words, he meant to focus our attention that God can always see all of us but our physical eyes, have limitation due to our sinful nature of life in this present earthly life. He was led by the Holy Spirit to cast out evil spirits and hence the devil's agents hated him on one pretext or other in very sophisticated manner and tried their level best to keep him off to show God's miraculous power among the tormented people, especially in Goa. But now he is in much better position in the presence of the Omnipotent God to deliver His blessings on the needy sinners than ever before. He pointed out that Man of God has always made to suffer humiliation before evil men by the superficial and with external mask of piety professed before hypocrites. He personified invisible devil and his diabolic works before men. He proved God's power over evil one with his various testimonies, opening eyes of those who deny the existence of devil in the world. Lord God give us more priests and lay persons who will walk in the footprints of Fr. Rufus Pereira to work for the greater glory of God, more especially among lukewarm Christians. He proved on several occasions that the grain neutral alcoholic spirit and Holy Spirit will never go together. Divine stimulant (Holy Spirit) is more important than worldly stimulant like alcohol, drugs, etc. to temporary and ruinous short lived happiness. Through the Power of the Rosary Prayers, the angels and saints were at his disposal to expel numerous evil spirits from the tormented people's life. Finally we should not only appreciate the good work done by him but continue to do a similar work by all of us.

The quality of this reporting is rather shocking and shameful.
Here we are mourning the death of a good man, who brought many in India and abroad to Christ. And yet this occassion has been used to feed untruths and issues not concerning the article at all - a) Fr Rufus was not a Vincentian b) the book they mention was not written by him. c) It is shameful on your part to slip in all these falsehoods and also irrelevant information about Sr. Sandra.
In fact Fr Rufus has always exercised Holy Obedience, even shunning great positions in Rome because his bishop required his services in Mumbai. I thank God for Fr. Rufus and his wonderful ministry.

I'm shocked by the poor reporting - Fr Rufus was not a Vincentian and the book they mention was not written by him. It is a dishonor to him to put in all these falsehoods and irrelevant information about Sr. Sandra. Fr. Rufus was never a Vincentian. The writers have gotten it all mixed up with another priest. Anyway I thank God for Fr. Rufus and his wonderful ministry.

Fr Rufus Pereira, a Royal Priest of God and a chosen one to serve His people, was in Mysore two years ago and I was fortunate to meet him and seek his blessings. His editorial in Charisindia is a great inspiration to the reader and to this broken world. We will miss him but rejoice that we have an intercessor for us before our Lord and Saviour Jesus. May His Soul Rest In Peace.

I am shocked and shaken to hear this news!I have been trying to contact him last few weeks but realised that he must be travelling overseas on his ministry. Its difficult for me to believe that he is no more just when I had decided to reach out to him. May God grant him an eternal reward for his goodness on this earth.

Heartfelt condolences to all his family members. May his soul rest in peace. He has blessed our new home when he was a parish priest in Mulund and was surprised to see about 150 odd people for house warming. We last we got his blessings when he had come to our parish and held a special prayer for all in our church. Dear Father we all will miss you a lot......
