Bangalore: Help Me, Yeddyurappa Appeals to Intellectuals

Bangalore, May 2 (DHNS): Expressing anguish over the “injustice” meted out to him, former chief minister B S Yeddyurappa made a desperate plea to the intellectuals of the State to take an objective look at the sequence of events that led to his ouster from the chief minister’s post and his subsequent arrest. He wants a fact-finding committee comprising intellectuals to “reveal the truth” behind the recent political developments.

Seated alongside his successor Chief Minister D V Sadananda Gowda, Yeddyurappa on Tuesday did not miss the opportunity to exhibit his theatrics.

Yeddyurappa and Gowda participated in the Basavashree award presentation ceremony organised by the Basava Vedike in Bangalore, where the former decried that there’s a conspiracy against him and that once he was “freed of the allegations” levelled against him, he would expose the conspirators.

Yeddyurappa’s monologue began with him reciting lines from Akkamahadevi’s vachana that said one had to endure criticism with patience, and applied it to himself saying: “I guess these lines were written particularly for a person like me.”

The BJP leader made no bones about using the platform to air out his grievances.

“I am ready for even a ten-year jail term. I will endure the trials I am subjected to. But the fact remains that I have been wrongly implicated, and nobody wants to know the truth. It seems like it is a crime to be born in the Veerashaiva community. I am saying these things here only because I am in the presence of intellectuals. But, you give your opinions after the court gives its verdict,” said Yeddyurappa.

He said that during his three-and-a-half-year tenure as chief minister he had contributed to the overall development of the State, and had ensured that the State’s resources were “well-protected”.

“Ironically, today, I am standing in the dock. But I am confident that I will come out clean. There will come a time when I will stand before all of you and reveal the names of those who have conspired against me. If I have said anything wrong today, you can write me a letter, and I will correct myself,” he added.

Yeddyurappa also made a veiled attack on his party leaders for not coming out and supporting him, even after the High Court quashed the FIR against him.

Yeddyurappa, who was kept waiting by Gowda for more than an hour, left the venue immediately after his speech saying that he had to participate in another function.

The two did not even exchange pleasantries. In fact, when Gowda gestured towards Yeddyurappa to garland Suttur seer Shivarathri Deshikendra Swami, the latter refused to accept the garland.

Water Resources Minister Basavaraj Bommai instead took the garland from Gowda’s hand and felicitated the pontiff.

An unfazed Gowda, who later addressed the gathering, himself recited lines from a poem by Shivarudrappa. He said it was important to treat each other with love and compassion. He also said that one should not be blinded by one’s ego, a statement that was indirectly aimed at Yeddyurappa.

“Bringing about development shouldn’t be the only criterion. Being humane too matters,” he said.

Kanavi presented Basavashri

The Basava Vedike’s ‘Basavashri’ and ‘Vachana Sahityashri’ awards for the year 2012 were presented to poet Chennaveera Kanavi and singer Kasturi Shankar, respectively.

Chief Minister D V Sadananda Gowda presented the awards in Bangalore on Tuesday.

Kanavi, who is a recipient of the Sahitya Akademi Award, hails from Dharwad. Shankar incidentally completes 50 years of singing career in September this year.

The Basavashri has been previously presented to Sudha Murthy, S P Balasubramaniam, Veerendra Heggade, G S Shivarudrappa, Chandrashekar Kambar, Justice Shivaraj Patil, Dr H Narasimhaiah and others.

Former chief minister B S Yeddyurappa, Housing Minister V Somanna, Water Resources Minister Basavaraj Bommai, and Kannada and Culture Minister Govind Karjol were present on the occasion.

Dinesh Poojary Mangalore, well, what do you want prove this clapping from the public towards DVS?Plain question for you....Do DVS able to retain power in forthcoming general election?Certainly not...Because politics is that rigid.Check Udupi-Chick by election...1)DVS home turf 2)Considerable Vakkaliga vote bank plus CM of their community.3)BJP's strongest hold in twin districts Udupi Chickmagalur.4) immediate past MP of UDUPI/CHIK was DVS!!!5)All govt machinery, resources,Sanghparivar' top leaders are concentrated on this by-election!Yet what happened?A huge margin defeat to BJP which might not even realized in DREAM...

BJP's treatment of Yeddy(politically)not far with political precedent. Why Yeddy was given free hand whenever there was "AFASWARA"It clear that BJP needed it's govt by hook or crook and that is why High Command allowed OPERATION KAMALA,MINE LOOTING and Frequent hijacking of the govt by several groups. Now BJP and Yeddy both are sinking ship and by reliable sources 40% of MLAs of BJP are under intense negotiations with Congress and JDS....Wounded tiger (BSY)definitely looking for a perfect opportunity to climb the ladder or to wreck the ship...watch and wait.

Now story is different.Mr.DVS personally supervises all files signs according to merit. Wait another 6 months,DVS will impress everyone. He may overatake Mr.Narender Modi in development work.

Eddy's grave was prepared at his own family. As per reports the family members of Eddy even forged his signatures and the top KAS and IAS officers could not say anything or refuse. Now he is looking for a new lamb to sacrifice for the family sins.He will never come again in BJP and even the BJP will lose the election in the next legislature due for 2013.They have less than 11 months to use tax payers money to tour the state .The BJP teams are trying thier best to buy time to postpone the march 2013 elections. At the maximum they can pull upto june and then go for elections in july 2013.The more young educated voters will be in the voters list for 2013 and the predictions say that young voters do not prefer a party that attacks on Vday and other social days.

I don't understand why DVS is there as obedient disciple sitting in the back bench, almost bowing and apparently obeying orders. He could have cleared some important files in the office. Or may be, as merely tax paying civilians, we are incapable of understanding the underlying equations in politics.

Mr. Jude Mangalore, why do you comment against Nagesh ? He is right. When Yeddy was in power, opposition people offered Donkey Sacrifice to kill him. Yeddy said this. Now, may be Italian led lady has offered Elephant to bring disaster on him. According to Nagesh, BJP is fully controlled by Italian led lady. We should understand when a person is totally fraustrated, they comment anything and blame anyone to prove themselves right. I think Yeddy stopped appealing God, visiting Temples and donating Crores (because now he can not use tax payers money). Jai ho Mr. Sadanandaji.

Dear Nagesh, I have a very friendly advise for you. You don't seem to be well as your ravings and rantings do not make sense at all. You say the Italian led Congress is responsible for your darling Yeddi's plight. In other words this means that the entire BJP high command, BJP government in Karnataka and the RSS are under Smt. Soniaji and take instructions from her.

You better get yourself examined at the earliest my friend before losing your balance completely. You also say that the entire country is behind Yeddi. If that is the case why don't you suggest that he contest for the President's post. May be there he will have a chance to make small plots of the Presiddent's estate and sell them at discounted rates to his family and friends.

    Later DVS recited few lines from Shivarudrappa's poem "ಹಣತೆಯನ್ನು ಬೆಳಗಿಸುವುದು ಮಹಾ ಕಾರ್ಯವಲ್ಲ. ಹಣತೆಯ ಬೆಳಕಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಪರಸ್ಪರ ಒಬ್ಬರನೊಬ್ಬರು ಅರಿತು, ದ್ವೇಷ ಬಿಟ್ಟು, ಪ್ರೀತಿಯಿಂದ ಬಾಳುವುದೇ ಮಹಾ ಕಾರ್ಯ". Whole audience clapped and supported DVS..
