Karkala: Mamata Poojary Leads Indian Kabaddi Team to World Cup Victory

Daijiworld Media Network - Karkala (SP)

Karkala, Mar 5: Kabaddi queen Mamata Poojary, daughter of Bhoja Poojary and Kitti Poojarti from Yennehole near Ajekar in the taluk, has brought laurels to her country and particularly to her hometown yet again.

This time, as captain of the Indian women's kabaddi team, which won the inaugural World Cup on Sunday March 4.

The team under her has put in sterling performances this year. Her entire family including elder brother, Vishwanath Poojary, are celebraring her moment of success.

Mamata, who was also the member of the gold-winning Indian women’s Kabaddi team at the Asian Games last time, hails from a poor agriculturist family.

“I am ecstatic about our winning spree and also proud about annexing the world title. We are proud that our team never lost a match in this championship. Every member worked for the success of the team, and contributed to the best of their abilities. This achievement has brought in me a sense of joy and relief,” she said.

She added that the team members were very careful in their finals against Iran. “In the Asian Games semi-finals, we could secure victory over Iran by a solitary point. Iranian team plays very well. Iran fought well, but we succeeded in getting the world cup,” Mamata added.  She also attributed her success in sports as well as life, to her total involvement with sports activities.

Mamata confessed that the financial condition of her family was not good before the Asian Games. She said after she emerged as a star performer in sports, the family’s living condition has improved. She attributes her success to the blessings of her parents and elder brother.

Karnataka Chief Minister, D V Sadananda Gowda, has congratulated Indian Kabaddi team and Mamata Poojary in particular for winning the inaugural Kabaddi world cup under Mamata’s captaincy.

“Mamata has showed that poverty need not come in the way of achieving success in sports. We have already announced a reward of five lac rupees to the Indian Hockey team. We will also be rewarding Mamata suitably,” he said. The CM, who is also in-charge of sports ministry at present, said he would be instructing his officials to bring his promise into practice at the earliest.

Many congratulations to Mamatha Poojary. All the best to you for your future endavors. You deserve much more encouragement/compliments than what you get today.

Maharashtra govt, as per the news of yesterday, will be giving Rs.1 crore to each of the three women Kabaddi Players of that state. Why Mamatha is given only Rs.500,000/-?

    She deserves more.

DVS has announced 5 lacks for Mamatha. But i don't think it will ever reach her. Yeddy too promised plots for cricket world cup winners but nothing came out. Rather he denotified some plots for his own family.
BJP is famous for false promises. It's in their blood itself.

Louis, Kuwait please improve your general knowledge first. First would like to say that Mamata poojary represented our indian and she didnot represent karnataka there. So i am going to ask you whether our central UPA govt recognize here for that?? The people with the people like you is that you people always want to blame BJP state govt for unwanted reasons. So wanted out of the BJP-congress politics in this matter. Let's all wish her as an Indian. Congrats Mamata poojary madam
