Bangalore: KSRTC Bus Depot at Udupi, Divisional Workshop in Puttur

Bangalore, Jan 23: A new bus depot of Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation will set up in Udupi while a divisional workshop and a new bus stand are being set up in Puttur, Transport Minister R Ashok announced on Monday.

Addressing reporters in Bangalore on Monday, he said the Udupi bus depot is among the five new bus depots being set up by KSRTC under the public-private-partnership model.

The other four bus depots are being set up in Mysore, Tumkur, Challakere and Hassan.

The minister said the Volvo hybrid bus, unveiled at the Delhi Auto Expo earlier this
month, will be launched on Bangalore roads soon.

The 105-seater single bus would have a two-month trial run in the city.

The trail run would commence from this month itself.

According to a preliminary report, the minister said the hybrid bus reduces diesel fuel costs by 30 per cent besides being environment friendly with significantly less emission levels.

He said the Volvo 7700 hybrid has a diesel engine and an electric motor, which can be used either independently or jointly.

The battery that drives the motor of the bus is charged through re-generative braking. The engine shuts off when the vehicle is stationary and does not start again till the bus reaches 15 to 20 kmph, thereby further saving fuel, he said.

The foundation stone would be laid tomorrow for a new depot of Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation at Devanahalli in the city outskirts.

The new bus stand of BMTC at Devanahalli would be constructed on a 3.24 acre plot, he said.

No one can deny that bjp's track record on development/infrastructure is way better than any other party in India.i also feel that fringe groups like ram sene etc are used to malign bjp and their ideology.as for congress there are good people there too but most are spineless have no vision.this is bcoz most have to bow down to the high command.

It is a good for the people in general as almost all the vehicles pass through this historical city. I wish the minister once passed from Udupi - Katpady - Manchakal - Belman to see how people in these areas suffer for lack of proper width of the road.

Very Happy that Puttur and Udipi are getting new KSRTC bus depots. Hon. Transport Minister, Ashokji, when will you consider building a bus shelter and depot at the very important junction of B.C. Road? It is very important transit junction with a heavy footfall and long ignored. This place is indeed in a crying need of one more from the point of view of the unescorted children and senior citizens, and deserves one very soon!!

The deveopment and success of KSRTC is mainly due to its General Manager who is not even mentionned oin this article and who had been there in his job long before BJP came to power. So let us not celebrate this as a victory of BJP and let us congratulate this man who has made KSRTC as the best run state-owned-PSU in the country.

Ashoka is a man with mission and vision. He contributed a lot to transportation after he became minister.

Thanks Ashokanna for having considered Udupi and Puttur for setting up depots.

The congis always neglected Coastal districts (along with other districts :-)). BJP has done a lot to our region in last 3 years.

    Major ones are:

    1. Inclusion of TULU in education
    2. Vishwa Tulu Sammelana
    3. Constructing minor fishing ports
    4. Infrastructure improvement
    5. Improvement of drinking water supply in Udupi.
    6. Volvo buses between Manipal-Mangalore-Kasargod
    7. Two weeks back DVS sanctioned 6-7 full fledged fish markets in DK/Udupi/NK.

These are the reason why BJP is winning in all the elections. Same thing is going to repeat in coming bypoll.

Jai Karnataka, jai DVS lead BJP..
