Mangalore: 'Spectrum 2012' Focuses on Cardiovascular Therapies

Mangalore, Jan 22: A day-long scientific symposium on cardiovascular therapies and research update ‘Spectrum 2012’ was inaugurated at Hotel Ocean Pearl here on Sunday January 22.
Dr B V Manjunath, chief interventional cardiologist of A J Hospital & Research Centre and head of department of cardiology of A J Institute of Medical Sciences was the chief convener of the symposium.
Speaking on the occasion, chief guest of the inaugural ceremony A J Shetty, chairman and managing director of A J Hospital and Research Centre said there is need for creating awareness on free treatment facilities available for the poor. The workshop helps every participant to gain more knowledge on modern facility and best treatment in health centers, he said.
Dr A V Shetty, senior cardiologist, another guest at the programme said that in modern days knowledge is sought for the sake of earning wealth, but it should not be the case, instead, knowledge should be freely and readily available to everybody. He added that medical care used to be free centuries ago, and service mentality in the profession should gain back its horizon.
Ramesh Pai, the dean of AJ Institute of Medical Sciences said that clinical diagnosis is the important factor even in modern medical science era in spite of all advances in the profession. Organizing this type of workshop annually avails better knowledge on the subjects and also gives knowledge on managing the patients in better ways.
Dr Ullas Pandurangi, leading cardiologist with the Madras Medical Mission, Dr K Shrinivas, Dr Jayaranganath Dr Prasanna Simha of Sri Jayadeva Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences and Research were the resource persons.
Lectures, interactive sessions, ECG quiz, debate, controversy and panel discussion in various field of cardiology including electrophysiology, interventions, pediatric cardiology and cardiac surgery are part of sessions. Participants were given electronic voting pad to interact with speakers. Also, ECG quiz winners were awarded cash prizes.
