Mangalore: Treat for Movie Buffs with International Film Festival from Jan 19

Mangalore, Jan 17: An international film festival will be organized in Mangalore by Sahamata Film Society in association with SDM College of Business Management from January 19 to 22.

The four day film festival will be held at the Conference Hall of SDM College of Business management, Mangalore. A total of 9 Indian and international films will be screened on these four days to give the people an opportunity to view meaningful and top quality films.

The film festival will be inaugurated on January 19 at 4 pm followed by the screening of the award winning Kannada film Kubhi mathu Iyala. On January 20 Marathi film “Me Shivarajeraje Bhosle Bholtoey” directed by Santhosh Manjrekar will be screened at 5.15 pm.

On Saturday January 21 there will three films starting from 1.30 pm onwards – Tamil movie “Kanjeevaram”, Mexican movie “The Violin” and the Finnish Russian gem “the Cuckoo”.

On Sunday January 22 there will be a bonanza of 4 films, the screening of which will begin at 9.30 am. In the morning Malayalam movie “Adaminde Magan Abu Malayalam” will be shown. This will be followed by the Italian flick “II Postino”, Iranian film “Baran” and Hindi movie “Raincoat”.

The entry to the festival is through delegate passes available at Athree Book Stall and Navakarnataka Publications, K S Rao Road.

Most of these are award winning movies and some of these international films have been screened at various film festivals.

According to Ivan D'Silva, Secretary of Sahamata Film Soceity, this festival is aimed at promoting peace and harmony apart from inculcating the habit of watching good films among the people.

Sahamatha Film Society Mangalore has been working for the past two years to entertain, educate and inform the people through the art and science of Cinema by conducting Film Festivals, Film Appreciation Workshops, Film Making Workshops, Seminars and discussions on films and culture and monthly screening of good quality films to film aficionados.
