Kasargod, Sep 13: A woman was crushed under the wheels of a train along with her 18-month-old baby, at Payyanur railway station in the district on the night of Sunday September 11, even as her husband and son looked on helplessly.
Ayesha (23), wife of Yousuf, a resident of Palayangady Chuttat, and her one and half year-old baby she was holding, perished in this fashion.
Yousuf along with his family members, had gone to Vadagara to take part in a marriage function. The family came back by a train and alighted at Payyannur station. Even as the family was crossing the railway tracks to reach the railway gate, they saw Maveli Express train moving from Mangalore to Thiruvananthapuram, speeding towards them. Yousuf and his son ran to safety but Ayesha could not cross to safety in time, it is gathered.
