Mangalore, Jul 26: Konkani short story writer, novelist, humorist and columnist Stan Ageira Mulki in talk show ‘Coffee with Stan’ held at CODP hall, Nanthoor here on Sunday July 24 said that the Konkani Kutam Award presentation ceremony was a first of its kind and has lifted Konkani to the newer heights.
The 10th Konkani Kuttam, Bahrain award was conferred on Stan Ageira at St Sebastian Church Hall, Bendore on Saturday July 23.
Stan said, “I never ever written for awards .While writing, I never thought of awards. But the possibility of writers writing exclusively for awards can not be totally ruled out in Konkani today”.
On the talk show, Stan recollected his CYM and AICUF days at Mulky and association with editor-in-chief of Daijiworld Weekly Hemacharya. He explained his brief stint in electronic media in Bangalore. He said those were the days where there were not much television channels and getting a slot on DD2 was very difficult.
To a query raised about the comparison of print and web pages, Stan said that there is no direct competition between print magazines and web pages. In India print media is powerful than web pages. One reason among this may be the most of web pages are edited and published by persons who know very little about Konkani literature and languages.
Speaking about Konkani website he said that Konkanipoetry.com edited and published by president of Kavita Trust Melvyn Rodrigues is a good site and kittall.com is still too infant to comment on.
Regarding the relationship between the editors and writers Stan citing his own example said that the Editor should be learned enough to correct and publish the writings sent by writers. He said that except for Fr Mark Walder nobody else corrected his writings and there were also times when he got upset when Fr Walder rejected his writings after which he began sending articles to other papers who published the articles as they were. Stan said, “I have grown as a writer in Konkani because of Fr Mark Walder’s corrections.”
To a question raised about the constant friction in relationships of characters in his short stories, Stan opined that conflicts exist breeding in silence. He said that it is not a remote phenomenon “Loud or silent, frictions are a part of every human relationship”.
Speaking of Konkani literature, Stan said that he agreed that it indeed is not up to the mark and grown to the level where it should have been grown. One among many reasons for this may be Konkani writers are not professional. Writing in konkani is a mere hobby for many. Though the vacuum in Konkani literary circle is worth encouraging one should write from self motivation and training schools will not help in producing writers.
Coffee With Stan was organized by Konkani Writers Forum, Karnataka was first of its kind in Mangalore. Hemacharya, Editor, Dajiworld Weekly anchored the show.
Best five questions from the audience were selected and Stan gave them his `Thamdi Mirsang' (Red Chillies) book autographed.
A greeting card congratulating Stan on receiving the award signed by 45 Konkani writers and artists was handed over to Stan by president of Konkani Writers Forum Paul Moras accompanied by joint secretary Tony Ferros , treasurer Pinto Vamanjoor and general secretary H M Pernal.
Editor-in-Chief of Daijiworld.com Walter Nandalike , operations director of Daijiworld Media Melvyn Rodrigues, editor of Dirvem J A Monis, senior writers like Eddie Netto, Ron Roche Cascia , M P Rodrigues ,Shalini Valencia , Gladys Rego, H R Alva of Mariads, J F DSouza , Attavar , C G S Taccode, Richard Moras of Konkani Kutam , Arun Plaimar of Angaan konknechem Riyadh, Titus Noronha of Rahul Group among others were present.
