| Hanging Afzal does not Suit UPA: Modi |
 |
| Press Trust of India |
 |
LUDHIANA, May 10: Attacking the UPA on alleged delay in executing Parliament attack convict Afzal Guru, Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi on Sunday said the government was indulging in "votebank politics" and "hanging Guru does not suit its interests".
"The Congress-led UPA is indulging in votebank politics and hanging Guru does not suit its interests," Modi said, a day after Rahul Gandhi defended his party saying Afzal will be hanged when his turn comes.

"Out of 29 persons who are on death row, cases of 26 have been processed and only three cases including that of Afzal Guru are pending, Modi told an NDA "Maha Rally" at PUDA ground here, which witnessed a major show of strength with party stalwarts and alliance leaders attending it.
Rahul Gandhi while addressing a rally at Mohali in Punjab on Saturday evening had said Afzal Guru was twenty second on the list of those to be hanged.
"There is a huge line and there are others before him. When his number (turn) comes, he will be hanged."
Modi launched a blistering attack, saying "During Congress regime there is a huge line for everything, be it for getting ration cards, gas connections... Congress General Secretary (Rahul) says Afzal is in queue. Never before have we heard that even for hanging a person, there is a queue. This is unfortunate for the country". |

| My dear only true Indian Mr Navin Sinha, i do not understand why you are bringing the plight of Kashmiri pandits to justify Modi's actions during the Gujarat riots. Do you mean to say that by killing Muslims in Gujarat you can restore the status of Kashmiri pandits or balance out their misery. Don't you read the newspapers?. If you do, you will find that almost 99% of the people being killed today in Kashmir are muslims. So many of them innocent bystanders and children who happen to be caught in the crossfire between the military and terrorists. The problem in Kashmir is the one created by Pakistan and not by Indian muslims. Therefore please do not mix up issues to confuse people. The killing of Kashmiri pandits and their displacement has not been caused by the Indian state, but by terrorism. The riots of Gujarat which killed over a thousand Muslims and also many Hindus were state sponsored and took place with the active involvement of Narendra Modi, his ministers and his officials. That is the difference and so please try to understand this. Till date he has not apologised or shown even some amount of regret. He seems to gloat at what had happened. If he is your modern day God why then did Mr Vajpayee say that what happened in Gujarat was a national shame. Every leader worth his salt in the BJP knows that Modi is a criminal, but the lust for power seems to have blinded them. They seem to think that Modi's histrionics will help them gain power. He is no different from Hitler. If ever he becomes Prime Minister then only God can save India. |

| It is quite apparent that most of the readers here have commented about Afzal Guru without knowing the factual details about the 2001 Parliament attack and the trial that followed later on. Even people like Shanawaz Kukkikatte have passed on their judgment that Afzal Guru is the declared mastermind of the attack and hence should be sent to the gallows. But the Supreme Court doesn’t say so. Before going further, let me clarify that I am not blindly supporting Afzal’s case and not supporting just because he happens to be a Muslim, I am supporting the case based on the merits of the case. I know there are so many people here to jump on me, never mind. In its judgment on August 5, 2005, the Supreme Court admitted that the evidence against Afzal was only circumstantial, and that there was no evidence that he belonged to any terrorist group or organisation. But it went on to endorse what can only be described as lynch of law. "The incident, which resulted in heavy casualties, had shaken the entire nation," it said, "and the collective conscience of the society will only be satisfied if capital punishment is awarded to the offender." So the Supreme Court of India has delivered judgment to satisfy the collective conscience of the people of India without bothering whether it is erring on its part as a final link in the justice delivery system. This “collective conscience” was created by media, a mass hysteria was created by repeated airing of forced confession of Afzal by the media. This confessional statement was later on rubbished by the Delhi High Court . Both Delhi High Court and the Supreme Court upheld the death sentence though they agreed that the investigation was flawed. I request you people to go to the following links, one about an article written by Arundhathi Roy way back in December 2006 in the “Guardian” paper and another link wherein you can find a letter written by lawyer of Afzal Guru to NDTV about the role of NDTV in creating a national hysteria about Afzal Guru. http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2006/dec/15/india.kashmir http://justiceforafzalguru.org/background/dishonest.html Some people have argued that Afzal Guru is not being sent to gallows just to appease Muslims. My question is how many Indian Muslims will shed tear if Afzal is put into death or alternatively, how many Muslims will vote for Congress just because they have not taken any decision on Afzal? I say this is a ridiculous thinking. Just see some of the grounds on which mercy petition is based : Non provision of legal assistance to Afzal at the crucial trial stage, forced confession in front of the media, highly unfair and flawed trial process, fabricated evidence, confession under duress, etc. I am not batting for Afzal but my point is justice should not be denied even to Afzal in a country like India. The President of India has the authority to review the entire legal proceedings again and take an independent final decision on the matter. I hope th |

So Preeti K.S Udupi, can you please tell who is victim of blind hatred? Modi is not the CM of Gujaratis he is the CM of Hindus in Gujarat. |

| Mr.shahnawaz kukkikatte, dubai/udupi(urf Rahul, Mangalore), Lavin Noronha, Paladka/Bahrain, Jude, Mangalore Dubai, susie Jackline, India.... Are you people are Indians???????? Hundreds of thousands of Kashmiri Pandits who were forced to leave their sacred land because of the war waged by Islamic terrorists must now live in despicable conditions in their own country and are on the verge of extinction as a race. The present plight of the community, is now rootless and without identity. Over one thousand members of the community have been killed by the terrorists and the thousands are dying in the miserable camps for want of basic amenities, shelter, medicare and family support and thousands of its youth are getting scattered in search of livelihood. Islamic fundamentalists have declared 'JIHAD', holy war, upon India to validate Pakistan's indefensible aggression against her neighbor in the playground of now turned into a graveyard of innocents. In Kashmir, Islamic terrorists have been unleashing forces of death and destruction against Kashmiri Hindus/sikhs, a minority community, to force a change in the demographic composition in their favor by squeezing them out of their homeland of the last five thousand years. The fact is that Kashmiri Pandits were driven from their homeland after a campaign of intimidation and harassment was launched against them by the military-wing of the secessionists. Kashmiri Pandits were forced from their hearths and homes at the point of gun. The objective of this ethnic cleansing was to create a minority-free Kashmir valley where the goal of Islamization could be easily forced on the ordinary people. Called "migrants" by the administration, the Kashmiri Pandits are in fact refugees in their own country due to total failure of the Indian State to provide security and safety to them when they were ruthlessly persecuted, threatened, tortured and murdered by the Islamic terrorists. More than ten thousand people killed in kashmir and 400,000 people are homeless.. is it plight of gujarat is more than kashmir pundits?????? |

| Preethi KS, You are absolutely right that we , the minorities, are the victims of hatred - in the hands of people like you. You need to change your behavior, mindset and thinking a bit so that we all can lead a peaceful co-existence. The problem is you think from your heart and have kept the brain in the freezer. You are talking about Modi’s development, forget development , that is secondary for us, first, allow us to live in a fearless atmosphere. Tell Modi to provide peace and security to all the people of Gujarat and then only we can look into his developmental aspects. Without peace and tranquility, economic development doesn’t make any sense at all. Regarding your branding of Shanawaz Kukkikatte as unpatriotic, it is atrocious, vengeful, hilarious, and what not? India is not only your ancestral property, it belongs to all the Indian citizens. We know how patriotic we are and we do not need any certificate from people like you and we equally know what is the level of your patriotism. Patriotism doesn’t mean only loving of Indian geographical area from Kashmir to Kanyakumari, it is also loving of people living in between. Just the name “Preethi” is not enough, try to give a little meaning to the word “Preethi”. |

| Since independence India made developments in almost all fields from green revolution to nuclear technoly and space research as well. So we should appreciate Congress Govt's five year plans and Mrs Gandhi's successive rule for last 4 decades. Compared to our neighbours and many developing countries in the world we earn a huge distinction because of our achievements in education, industrial and agriculture sectors. |

| Lavin Noronha , your irrational arguement just shows you people never considered yourself Indian at all. For you guys your religion comes first. Who are you to say Modi is culprit. We have independent Judiciary in our country.Let judiciary decides whos culprit whos not. Just because Mr Modi supports Majority , all the minority are against him. Those who are siding with Afzal are a greater threat to India then Afzal himself. And funny part of your arguement is majority is electing him again and again. Its his development work which makes him CM 3 times. And according to you , majority in Gujarat is senseless . Just shut your mouth before saying anything against the mandate of this Great Country. I am sure Mr Modi will be our PM in 2014. and SC too will give him clean chit. |

| Ms Preeti, the Nanavati commission was appointed by Modi to get himself cleared, and it did exactly that instead of investigating the truth. Just wait and see now. The hearings will soon begin on the Gujarat riots under the directions of the Supreme court and all will be clear by the time these hearings end. The state of Gujarat has been polorized by Modi and he has been winning only because a large section of the people do not vote out of fear. As far as development of Gujarat is concerend please go through this article written by Prof Dipankar Gupta from JNU : Gujarat grew at approximately 12 per cent in 2006-07 against India's overall growth of about 8 per cent that year. Fantastic, said Montek Singh Ahluwalia, and lauded Gujarat's achievement. He must have stuttered on this praise, because all credit on this score would go to Narendra Modi. But wait! What is so great about this statistic? In 1994-95, Gujarat surged at the rate of 13.2 per cent. Where was Modi then? In the years between 1994 and 2001, Gujarat's state domestic product registered a growth average of 10-13 per cent. At the tail end of this period Modi stepped in as chief minister. What then has Modi done that is so special? Let us take a long look at Gujarat. This state was already among the top three in India by 1990. It took Gujarat 20 years after it was created in 1960 to climb up from the eighth rank to the third spot. Twenty years of hard work, led primarily by Congress governments, it may be added. Over 35 per cent of its infrastructural augmentation for power generation happened between 1995-2000. If Gujarat today can show off its treasure chest, it should gratefully remember its pre-Modi past. Besides other riches, Gujarat processes 49 per cent of the country's petroleum products. It also has India's largest shipyard in Bhavnagar, as well as the giant Reliance refineries in Jamnagar. Even on something as pedestrian as soda ash, Gujarat is responsible for 90 per cent of India's production. All this happened well before Modi cut his political incisors. So what is so dazzling about Gujarat's current prosperity? Nothing really. In spite of decades of growth as usual, as much as 93 per cent of Gujarat's workforce toils in the informal sector. This is why growth is not always development. In fact, on the Human Development Index, Gujarat fell one place in 2003-04, and now ranks below Kerala, Punjab, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra and Karnataka. In terms of rural prosperity Gujarat is at number five and well behind Punjab, the front ranker. Now this is a hard one. Workers employed under the National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme in Gujarat receive half of what their counterparts get elsewhere. Interestingly, this fact was recently released by a parliamentary committee headed by Kalyan Singh, who was then with the BJP. Ernst & Young, consultants for the 2005 Vibrant Gujarat conclave, ranked Gujarat's investment climate behind that of Kerala, Maharas |

| Preeti K S, it is nice to have emotions, but not as much as you have. Just as you claim that minorities are victims of blind hatred towards Modi, a major portion of majority section are victims of blind 'love' and 'appreciation' for Modi. Each group has its own reasons for this. Don't try to bring Nanavati commission report. A commission which was set up by Modi itself, how it can dare to give a report which is against him? Why don't you read the report of Bannerjee commission which said that Godhra train fire was accidental, as against Shah-Nanavati's claim that it was done by Muslims? Don't attribute Gujrat's development to Modi. Gujrat had always been prosperous and developed state due to Gujratis who are industrious. During the period 1960-90, Gujarat established itself as a leader in various industrial sectors — Textiles, Engineering, Chemicals, Petrochemicals, Drugs & Pharmaceuticals, Dairy, Cement & Ceramics, Gems & Jewellery, etc. Post-liberalization period saw Gujarat's State Domestic Product (SDP) rising at an average growth rate of 14% per annum in real terms (from 1994 -2002). Gujarat achieved as much as 35% of augmentation in its power generation capacity during the period 1995-96 and 2000-01. Modi arrived on the scene in 2002. Modi has to be hailed for being corruption free. You know why did Muslims vote for Modi? It is not out appreciation but out of fear. Go to Gujarat villages. Modi's network is so strong that those who are against him, are never allowed to vote. Either their voter IDs are snatched from them just a day before the election and returned to them after elections or their voter IDs are bought for a day by paying them around Rs 1000. In certain other places, names of Anti-Modi people are systematically removed from the voter's list. Just see Gujarat's overall voting percentage. You will know where they stand. I will bet, even if NDA comes to power, Afzal Guru will not be put to gallows, unless BJP dares to change the Constitution. Just like the Swiss bank fiasco, Afzal Guru is their vote bank. Forget about 100 days, under the prevailing circumstances, Swiss bank money cannot by touched even for the next 4-5 years. Emotions surely make people fool as they rule over mind. But extra-emotions also result in psychosomatic illnesses. |

| The comments here clearly indicate that all the people from the 'minorities' who are commenting here are victims of blind hatred and nothing else. U don't want see the development that Mr Modi has brought to Gujarat, u don't see that he has been given a clean chit by an investigating agency (Nanavati commission)...and you are comparing him with a terrorist !!! It is just a case of religious bias and when there r such unpatriotic people around, how will India develop. Mr Kukkikatte, it is better for India that a fundamentalist like you stays away from the country forever!! Mr Noronha...don't shout out your ignorance in public. Irrespective of what you believe, the truth will remain unchanged and that is that Modi has brought about development in Gujarat and all Gujaratis irrespective of religion have brought him to power. A survey conducted by a leading media orgn in India has shown that at least 85% of the Muslims in Gujarat voted for Modi...because they know that he can make them leaders in the global economic scenario. Also Mr Pavan, you forget that Masood Azhar was released in exchange for a plane full of hostages, under political pressure from the opposition which at the time was the 'honourable'Congress party! If Azhar had not been released and a few of those hostages had been killed, then people like u would not have hesitated to criticize the BJP for that also. People like u cannot be happy irrespective of what the BJP does for u r blinded by ur bias and the need to protest at their every move - be it good or bad!!!! |

It was a disgusting sight yesterday to see Modi jump all over Nitish Kumar on stage. Nitish Kumar is a socialist and a follower of JP and it is only due to circumstances that he is with the BJP. If not for Mr Vajpayee he would never have been with the BJP in the first place.
He may just about tolerate Advani, but there is no way that he will stick around with the BJP if Narendra Modi is declared as its head. Therefore all of us were treated to this Modi tamasha yesterday, who was going out of the way trying to grab Nitish and one could clearly see the discomfort on Nitish Kumar's face. |

Modi, why you are worried about hanging Afzal Guru is it because your crime against humanity will be exposed? NDA government released Masood Azhar and he was master mind for the attack at the Parliament so NDA should take the responsibility for the parliament attacks. Some readers have mentioned the development in Gujarat done by Modi, if he/she analyze the development it was not done by Modi, it was his predecessors have visualized the future and planned for it and Modi takes credit of it. Gujarati’s by birth are business minded people and development in Gujarat was inevitable.
Now, the honorable Supreme Court has instructed to re-open the Gujarat carnage case and Modi will be guilty for massacring thousand of innocent human lives because of their religion. Why did Modi waked out from the interview with Karan Tapar and it is said that if someone does anything against humanity they will be punished accordingly in this earth and we are waiting for that day Modi should be punished by Almighty for his wrong doings and why did US government denied the visa for Modi? Because they have evidence that he was responsible for the Gujarat carnage. The truth shall expose sooner or later and then Modi has to accept the people’s verdict. |

Mr. Advani has been calling Manmohan Singh as the weakest Prime Minister for quite some time. Recently Manmohan Singh, decided to hit back and he reminded the nation about the role of Advani in Kandhar episode, Babri demolition and Gujarat violence. Sonia Gandhi's response to Advani's barbs was at deeper level as she called Advani and most of BJP leadership as 'slave of RSS' (Bidar, Karnataka 15th April)
This jolted the BJP leadership which gave some weak mumbled response. BJP-RSS relationship was once again brought to the public attention. It became clear that it is really the RSS which through various mechanisms, ideological and organizational, controls the second largest party in the country. While RSS has always been calling itself as the cultural organization, by now its mask is off and the society at large knows that it is a political organization which is very shrewdly and cleverly been training swayamsevaks (volunteers) who in turn have formed various organizations to control the politics at all the levels.
These organizations formed by it range from Rashtra Sevika Samiti in 1936 to Akhil Bhartiya Vidyarthi Parishad, Bhartiya Jansangh, Vishwa Hindu Parishad to Vanvasi Kalyan Ashram etc. These organizations in turn have formed other subordinate organizations. What is common in these is that they are all formed by trained RSS swayamsevaks (ideological control) and that the core figures of these organizations meet often under RSS control, to coordinate their strategy. Their aim and job is to carry on the work of RSS, i.e. to push the country in to becoming Hindu Rashtra. Notably all the major characters from its stable from Nathuram Godse, Vajpayee, Advni, Narendra Modi etc. have been the RSS pracharaks at various points of time. As far as BJP is concerned it is the new avatar of Bhartiya Jansangh which was formed in 1951 jointly with Shyama Prasad Mukerjee of Hindu Mahasabha in 1951. RSS that time felt the need for a political organization in the aftermath of murder of Mahatma Gandhi. This had led to its ban on RSS by the Government of India, with Sardr Patel as the Home minister. For formation of Bhartiya Jansangh RSS loaned three of is prominent Pracharaks, Atal Bihari Vajpayee, Deendayal Upadhyay and Lal Krishna Advani. After Mookerji's death RSS tightened its grip on Jana Sangha. |

Mr. Ravish, Mangalore nobody can buy your argument. As you said IF he is a culprit in the mass murder... HE is a culprit. How can he be rooted out of power when he has murdered several minority people to appease majority. This is how politics works in India. I am sure he will remain in power as long as he appeases the majority in Gujarat.
I am an Indian first. As far as hanging Afzal guru... surely he will be hanged as there is a judicial process to be followed. I think we have to blame our judicial system rather than targeting the govt. As is in the case of Saddam Hussein, the convict should be hanged with in 10 days of his sentencing. Mr. Modi can make anything an issue to gain mileage. |

If you analyse the crimes committed by both Afzal Guru and Mr Narendra Modi, the latter's crime is against humanity. Afzal Guru masterminded the attack on the institution of democracy and attacked parliament, where as Mr Modi masterminded, supervised and abetted the systamatic killing of innocent Indian muslim. He just killed his own people, his own citizens just because they came from other ethnic lines to which he doesnot belong. As the head of state, he should have protected the innocent lives, where as he supported the massacre and abetted the crime. Who is more dangerous and more criminal here.
Both Afzal Guru and Narendra Modi are perperators of crime and just because Modi is a CM of one of the states and a leader of a party, he is free and is using all resources at his will to misguide the electorate. But thing is very clear that one day he has to answer God's call and would be held accountable for his crime in this world. I strongly believe both Mr Advani and Modi must have forgotten that they would die one day and would face God. Criminal is a criminal and he has no religion. To me Modi, Advani, Afzal Guru, Ajmal Kasab, all are criminals.
One thing common in them is they are thirst for human blood and for them life has no value before the political ambition. All of them believe in killing and threatening innocent insecured citizens of their own country. For Modi and Advani, they can do away with their crimes as they have political backing, all money power supported by the infrastructure to execute these henious crime against humanity. Can any one at his will kill others just for name and fame?? Readers please think and record your comments. |

Its funny to see people comparing Mr Modi with Mohd Afzal. This shows the sorry state of the People here. Afzal Guru is a terrorist been tried and convicted by Supreme Court.and what he has done for India? Mr Modi whatever his basher say about him , is a symbol of development. If people think he is culprit of mass murder in Gujarat then he would be rooted out from Gujarat. But he won Gujarat elections with 2/3 majority 3 times.
You cant denounce the verdict of the people of Gujarat. We should respect the democracy. Nanavati's report cleanly gives him a clean chit. Problem of the people with Narendra Modi is that minority here always want some one who appease them , pamper them. and if some one says anything about Majority then you simply object it.
Please be Indian first. And for God sake dont compare a terrorist with a Man who has done so much for the development. |

| Too bad, so many of u have become blinded by your random hatred of Modi that you fail to see that Afzal Guru is an enemy of the state...one who has a puppet of an external force (Pak-sponsored terrorism)and can in no way be compared with Modi. Afzal Guru's crime is beyond compare and unless dealt with the severest punishment will only serve as an encouragement to perpetrators of terrorism!! |

| UPA would go to any extent if that suits their so called "secular" vote bank politics. Congress decided they would stick with the queue system at least when it comes to the execution of capital punishment whether or not they follow the queue system in other aspects. |

Afzal Guru is not above law and must be sent to gallows because he is a traitor and enemy of this country. However legal process must be expedited and one should not equate his crime with other criminals who are given death penalty.Guru's crime is against our country. Govt at the center has the responsibility to excute this sentence. However, I totally disagree with Mr Modi to the allegation that congress has not sent Afzal Guru to the gallows because of its vote bank politics.
I am sure most of Indian muslims shall be happy to see him dead. Secondly until last week according to Central Home Minister, there were 29 cases under review/mercy petition. How come Mr Modi misguide the public to say that 23 cases have been processed and only 3 are pending. Has any one heard about 23 executions during last week? |
