M'lore and Udupi: DK Lok Sabha Constituency Records 74.33% and Udupi 61% Poll Turnout

Mangalore: Dakshina Kannada Lok Sabha  Constituency  Records 74.33 Percent Poll Turnout

Daijiworld Media Network- Mangalore (RS)

Mangalore, Apr 30:
The Dakshina Kannada  district has recorded 74.33 percent poll which is highest poll turnout in the state, said Deputy Commissioner V Ponnuraj.

Sullia assembly segment was recorded first in the constituency with  a 80.09 % turnout, while  Mangalore South segment recorded the least turnout with 68.13 %  polling. More than 70 % electorate exercised their franchise in all the seven assembly segments in the constituency, he said.

The voting percentage before de-mustering in Belthangady assembly segment was 72.60 %, Moodbidri - 71.50 %, Mangalore North - 73.15%, Mangalore (Ullal) - 74.36 %, Bantwal - 77.41%, Puttur segment recorded 78.12 %   he added.

The naxal  effected areas  have  recorded  highest  percentage of polling which has crossed minimum turnout about  57  percent which is highest average turnout in  the  state. In a total of 162 polling  stations in  naxal  infested areas a total of  68.78 % voters have exercised their  franchise.

Polling went off peacefully  without  any  trouble, said,  Ponnuraj, inspite of some of the polling stations facing some problems on  EVMs  which was  later  rectified.

There were above 5000 staff including micro observers who were given election duty cards and provided facility to caste their vote. Among them were 2000 drivers.  Many other staff lost their chance of voting because of their negligence in not filling the application forms he said.

He  also said that the communication centre which was set up at his office building has worked well and the experiment of collection of information and other data collection worked well, he said.

The Electronic Voting Machines (EVM) will be stored in a  strong room at Canara college in the city till the date of counting, May 16.

Udupi: Lok Sabha Constituency Records 61 percent Voters’ Turn-out

Reports by Hemanath Padubidri
Daijiworld Media Network – Udupi (RD)

Udupi, Apr 30:
The polling in the general elections at Udupi – Chikmagalur constituency, here on Thursday April 30 was peaceful amid fears of naxal attacks.  The average voters’ turn-out across the constituency was 61.39 % , with Karkal recording the highest of  70 %.

Udupi – Chikmagalur Lok Sabha constituency comprised of 8 legislative assembly constituencies, Kaup - 61 %, Udupi - 62 %, Kundapur - 67 %, Chikmagalur - 61.10 %, Sringeri - 64 %, Karkal – 70 %, Mudigere - 54 % and Tarikere - 52 %.

Nearly 50 % of voters’ turn-out was recorded in all the polling centers by 12.00 pm on Thursday.  New voters including youth in significant numbers cast their votes.  Majority of voters  did not have  Electoral Photo Identity Cards (EPIC) and ration cards, since the Electoral records were updated with voter’s photographs, ration cards details etc.  However, the voters carrying their EPIC cast their votes in large numbers with ease while others had to be assisted in clarifying their information with Electoral records by poll officials.

Meanwhile, the voters’ turn-out was about 5 % lower than the last Assembly polls held in 2008 here.

Security from  CRPF, ANF and police personnel assisted by poll officials ensured peaceful polling even in naxal-affected areas of Malnad regions on Thursday.

Hats off to the people of Dakshina Kannada!!! By high turnout, you have shown to the rest of the country that you are educated and responsible citizens of the country. You have also sent a clear message to the politicians not to fool around with the peoples’ power. Shame on Mumbaikars, who preferred to enjoy holidays rather than stand by Indian democracy.

It is good for DK to have highest polling percentage. In past, here the highest polling has favoured BJP, ie, above 65 %. But since, this time the constituency is reorganised, we cannot give clear certificate to any party till May 16th. BJP is likely to win with a thin margin on viewing the polling percentage.

Polls were largely peaceful thanks to the dedicated efforts of the staff employed in the polling stations. Readers have failed to notice the the tireless effort put in by them dispite the shabby treatment/facilities provided to them. In most of the polling booths located in villages, no basic amineties were provided , not even drinking water let alone other basic essentials like food and toilet facilites. I really felt bad for the lady workers on duty in the remote places. I hope they make better arragements for them in the future elections.

High turnout does not only mean more hindus are voting. It means that people want change and have expressed their dissatisfaction with the present conditions. It could be good for both parties, but more favourable to congress.

the calculation are clear if high voting has occurred in (high mix) area's i.e 2 minority are equals. Then for BJP to win it needs high polling.which Mangalore has archived... but these are calculations the reality is stored in Canara college.

high turnout doesnt mean change... if that was the case then mumbai should have high polling,,, high %age doesn't translate into a verdict for change. These are simple calculations see the break up of vote share it has been from puttur suliya beltangdy, modabbiri etc..... for a strong BJP fort which DK is... where the minority pooling is always the maximum.. i,e almost 80% so if BJP has to win they have to bring more Hindu voters to the polling... which i think they are successful in. so do the calculation for yourself. Please pay a visit to the congress election office in mlore & BJP Election office. You will know the verdict looking at their faces.

Actually till recently Mangalore was a calm city people loving fashion, decent, non-interfering & secular. I spent my child-hood in Mangalore & I had many good Christian/Muslim friends. I had my education only in Christian schools- Cascia & Alyosious college & not once I was preached Christianity.Mangaloreans generally intelligent & calm but recently once BJP came to power all sorts of trouble erupted from no-where. Are we not proud about our heritage? in this election people got fed up & they came out in enmass to SHOW THEIR RIGHT. That is why polling is 74.33% Probably highest in the country! Long live Mangaloreans & kick those who disturb the harmony that prevailed earlier. Pramod Muthalik should be banned for life!

I think for the first time we have a 74% turn out, for any elections in Mangalore. It is encouraging n good news to the citizens n hats off to Mr. V. Ponnuraj, DC, who has worked meticulously to ensure safe and smooth voting. In general turnout was good but it could have been still better. Now we will have to wait n watch, who is going to rule us??

Th Dakshina Kannada Lok Sabha Constituency Poll Turnout is about 74% and thAt is good record for DK. The J & K is the only state in the union which has very low Poll turnout and good percent of people have boycotted the election all together. The J & K has been INTRGRAL PART of India for more than 50 years but the people still don't show solidarity (sense of belonging to India) with the democratic country of India.
