Mangalore: Sonia Gandhi’s Visit Attracts Crowds in Large Numbers

Pics: Dayanand Kukkaje/Prajwal Ukkuda
Daijiworld Media Network - Mangalore (MM)

Mangalore, May 13: The visit of Indian National Congress president and UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi on Tuesday, May 13 created immense excitement among the Congress leaders and party workers. Moreover, Sonia Gandhi assured the citizens of declaring new projects for the coastal region so that it could generate more employment opportunities to youth of the area.

Construction of the  40,000-crore ONGC project has already begun in the city. Moreover, the city will be developed as an Information Technology (IT) hub, she assured. The coastal region has developed in educational and healthcare sectors considerably. The policies of Congress party have also been largely responsible towards this growth, she added.

Stable government

Speaking about the political requirements in the state, she said that except Congress, no political party has been successful in ruling the state for a full term of five years. Therefore, Congress is the need of the hour for the state, she opined.

'Some political parties are engaged in creating hatred and practicing discrimination among the people. Some other parties are opportunistic in nature and will either catch or let go of anyone’s hand at anytime to assume power. But Congress has always thought of all classes of people, worked for the overall development of the country without any discrimination, she said.

Development was totally sidelined in the state owing to corruption practiced by JD (S)-BJP coalition government which was at the helm for 20 months. Therefore, Congress should be brought back to power for developmental works to be carried out in the state, the way UPA is doing at the national-level, she urged.

UPA has done revolutionary work and enacted many landmark Acts in the last four years. BJP has never done anything for the victims of riots or other backward class people in the country. They cannot confront Congress on any issue, she challenged.

Huge Crowd

Sonia Gandhi’s visit to the city was successful in attracting huge crowds to Nehru Maidan where the programme was held. A large number of people were waiting along the road till Hampankatta to see her. Sonia did not disappoint as she waived her hand to them while passing by in an open car. She did not forget to shake hands with Congress activists who were in the front row at Nehru Maidan. Though she reached the city at about 3 pm, the start of the function was delayed for about an hour.

By the way what is Maharashtra CM Deshmukh doing here in Karnataka? is he just following the high command around? Isnt he the one who has always been raking up the Belgaum border issue and demanding that it is merged with Mharashtra? We know exactly how patriotic our state congresss leaders are just by that one gesture of letting this man here , is he canvassing for votes for them? the whole thing is laughable, but then Congress after it went into foreign hands is one big comedy show what with her speeches and their sycophancy...anyway we are all getting free entertainment, and we are also being robbed by these selfish politicians, what with her people from Italy getting plum assignments, and there will be more Quotrochis looting this country with her blessings...

To Congress Leaders who are contesting from Mlore- It was a big crowd as seen in the photographs.Kudos to your achievement...Holding flags and smiling at the shutterbugs shouldnt be the only agenda... Thoughtful Devlopment(Mass Public Transit ), communal harmony and upbringing of under privileged citizens of Mlore should be on top of your agenda.. I have lot of promises from all the parties who have ruled in mlore year on year which hasnt materialized even a percent.. So i would say buckle up.. rise up to the needs of the city and the state... And to the people of Mangalore, think over the vote which you are going to cast..

My sincere appeal to all voters in Karnataka to vote for Congress. I had actively supported the Non-Congress parties during my College days and even voted against Congress. But I realise my mistake now. It is only Congress that can give a strong and stable Government for our state and the country. Long live Congress Party. All the best to Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi and all the Congress leaders. Jai Hind.

Instead of False boosting speaches our political leaders should reconcile with their inner conscious about they are really doing. Whether it is BJP or Congress or any other party. We Indians attained Independenc in 1947 almost more than 60 years before and now let us see what is state of people. What is their mentality. Every one is selfish. No one is having any kind of consideration of his fellow men. We people of one nation our self devided on the basis of cast, Creed and religion. Some Citizens do not have proper food to have at one time, some do not have proper clothing, leave out the housing facility.

What about education. Even today our small kids of age of 10 onwards working in Auto Garages and other kind work places. No Political Party has strictly initiate family planning till now. There is lot to comment but what is use ? Who will listen to it. Why today where ever you see communal clashes going on ? is it not the political parties are cause for this. Any body till today has set us minimum qualification standard for politicians or any body set maximum limit for them. Why after all why. Who will answer these questions. We were slave under British reign and it seems we are fit for that only.

Soniyaji did good Programs like The Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan and the Midday Meal Scheme attack the first problem. The Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan helps young children, including girls, who otherwise might not get an education. The Midday Meal Scheme, the largest such program in the world, allows poor parents to send their children to school.

Expenditure involved for various rallies, regardless the different parties, would certainly run to crores. The same could have been utilised for development purpose, and no necessity of ADB or like loans. Nation should find a way to conduct election with least expenditure particularly with no rallies participating National leaders or star attraction.

Dear voters electing MLA who always sit in opposite benches in assembly is of no use . BJP is in opposite benches in karnataka.Other parties will not join this party in govt. formation. It has spoiled image of south canara in recent years. They will be powerless again when they sit in opposite parties. THEY SHOW THEIR ANGER BY INDULGING IN NEGATIVE ACTIVITIES . Common man is not a memmber of any political party. My sincere wish is to vote for congress . any way congress will come to power of its own or with the help of JDS. Once they form govt ,let us form a group & pursue them to do developemental projects at south canara.(e.g, six lane highway from udupi to mangalore....

dear all please note what congress govt has given to india (after independence) - they fed their own party & their family. we have seen congress / janata dal govts in the ruling - let give BJP a chance - and see what they can do. i think congress leaders cannot sit in the opposition bench rather than they prefer ruling. ( congress leader should learn from Mr. A.B.VAJAPAE - how to sit in the opposition chair & deliver the duties of an opposition party leader) i do agree that no party is sincere now a days - but why not try for the new ones - rather hanging on our ansistarial votes/party.

Allegedly there were huge crowds for "Sonia rallies" during the Gujarat Election campaign. We all know the results of that. It is sad that the comments in this section seem to project Sonia as an undisputed leader of the country where as she has had little or no public life and has done no public service. I can understand if people said S M Krishna is our leader... But Sonia... Give me a break

Whether it is Congress or BJP or Bsp or JDS or JDU or SP or Independent candidate, the people should VOTE and elect good non-corrupt and who is willing to do some good work to the people. So far we have seen only big big promises. What common people wants- Good Roads, Electricity, Shelter, Education and Health. If political parties fullfill these promises, Job opportunities will automatically arises. But, which party will keep their promises?

It seems that Congress government can only control the organization, who are taking law into their own hands. Mrs. Gandhi told that "BJP has never done anything for the victims of riots." But, everybody knows that Congress government in Maharashtra is still sitting on the files of "Shrikrishna Commission". We cannot trust any party. It is a big tragedy of our country, indeed.
