Mangalore: Stage set for Congress President Sonia Gandhi's Visit to City
Special Political Correspondent - Daijiworld

May 11, 2008
Pics: Prajwal Ukkuda

Mangalore: The city of Mangalore  is all  set to welcome All India Congress Committee (AICC) chairperson and Congress party chief Sonia Gandhi, who would visit here on Tuesday May 13. She will  address a public gathering at the Nehru Maidan at 4 p m on Tuesday.

This will be the fourth visit of Sonia Gandhi to the city. Her last visit was in 2004 when she addressed  a  public gathering on the same ground during the assembly polls.

Former Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) president Janardhan Poojary  told   media persons that a huge crowd will be expected to gather at Nehru Maidan, to listen to Sonia Gandhi. Congress corporators of Mangalore City Corporation (MCC) will be concentrating on their efforts, in order to handle the expected  large crowd at the Nehru Maidan, he added.

Renuka Chowdhury, minister of state for Women and Child Development, with the help of local leaders, has been busy overseeing the necessary arrangements on the ground . She will be camping  overnight in the city for this purpose, said Renuka.

The elite commandos from Special Protection Group (SPG) have reached the city, in order to look after the security arrangements for Sonia Gandhi. They have already inspected the spot where Sonia Gandhi will be addressing the public and have given  their guidelines to stage designers to design the stage as per security requirements.

Our so called Politicians of DK, Mr.Poojary,Mr.Moily, Mr.Oscar Fernanades have done nothing for our District during thier High Posts in the Central Govt. Even today they do nothing except folding thier hands in front of our poor innocent hospitable citizens.

Dr Prakash, I appreciate your concern for poor and downtrodden. Unfortunately this line of thinking is absent in todays society. Corruption is no more a issue. It seems it is accepted by and large.Unless otherwise people understand this is 'OUR MONEY' mis utilised nothing can change. However not to worry. We will keep up our spirit of true democracy and voice our concern atleast, trying to wake up our brethern.

Congrats to Daijiworld for splashing some extraordinary snaps! The photograph is probably the most significant among all the snaps of this election. One can see the poor one-legged person on crutches with torn shirt behind Janardhana Poojari.

One can also notice the imported, designer Nike black shoes of Verrapa Moily who is wearing socks for his meetings with the common man and overseeing arrangements for Italian Madam’s visit to M’lore. While Renuka Chowdhury seems to be getting fatter and fatter in every sense after becoming a minister, in another photograph one can see, Madam’s so called kick-back fixer, Viz., Oscar Fernandes sleeping through a speech of another candidate. These so called leaders descend on the public during election without any sense of responsibility, accountability or shame.

They have all made ill-gotten millions to themselves and their crooked cronies through kick-backs, govt contracts, real estate, Mlre-Blr oil tanker transport, tourist bus business, excise licenses, Govt jobs, Police transfers, BDA & MUDA sites..etc. It is tragic to note that after getting into positions of power, after every election, while the black spectacles seems to be helping them hide their conscience they don’t even have an iota of concern or sensitivity to the poor and needy of our society!

Dear PSV,helping somebody is give 5Rs to the poor if you are earning 100Rs. And one dont have to advertise it if he is doing it. We choose these people with our valuable votes hoping that they serve the society equally. They come begging to our doors for the votes during election, after that when a poor goes to their door for the help they make them to wait for months & months just to show their face.

Dear PSV, Thanks. I agree with you whole heartedly. We all should introspect if we have done something to help such persons. I think it was Jesus who said …. before pointing at a spec in someone else’s eye, worry about the beam in your own ….. or something like that. I am not a hypocrite and I do what I have to do to help the deserving. The whole point of my observation in the first place was the irony of the photograph. The high and the mighty are scheming (or they appear to) to grab more power and plan for the reception for the highest and the mightiest of the land. The poor man on crutches is aloof to what is going on in his immdidte vicinity and appears to worry about from where his next mean will come. No offense meant for anyone. Daiji – Publish this photograph in “Picture of the moment”.

Touching photo indeed (the very first one at the top) Thanks JDS, happy that people are noticing what is happening in real world. Let them help the disabled ones & poors who cannot afford to buy a meal for the day instead of spending so much on publicity. Why do they bother to? Their family is safe & fine what if the poor die out of hunger or illness? They should be ashamed of their cunning behaviour towards public.

Renuka Choudhary who has a very dirty history on her way of entry to politics is a bad face for congress.

Dear JDS, I really understand your thoughts, but instead of blaming others what they did or not did, we all should ask oversleves that what I did for someone and when?

A very warm "Welcome" to Smt.Sonia Gandhi to our dear city .Your stature, noble out look ,and able leadership I'm sure is certainly going to boost the prospects of the Congress in the coastal belt and Karnataka is heading towards a Congress led government assuming office if the predictions of CNNIBN and other TV channels barring NDTV are right. One hopes that our state comes out of the shackels of the mining lobby of Bellary controlled by the corrupt and cunning Reddy's and a clean administration is provided by experienced and dignified people like S.M.Krishna.All the best to AICC President on her maiden visit to Mangalore .

Touching photo indeed (the very first one at the top). Presents the contrasting world of the HAVEs (and who want to have even more, both, power and wealth) and the HAVE NOTs. Did anyone notice the poor, one-legged person on crutches with torn shirt behind Janardhana Poojari? Did any of these so called “jana sevakaru” even bothered to have a second look at him or helped him in anyway? Surely not. In all probability, this poor man does not have a vote and that means, he does not exist for our politicians. And, we talk about social justice and equality !!! As the Tulu proverb goes “Oriyeg thindh sankata, oriyeg benddh sankata”. God help our India.
