Dear friends
“ A man loves his sweetheart the most, his wife the best, but his mother the longest’. - Irish Proverb
Mothers are indeed special and the month of May is specially dedicated to every Mother – as we celebrate "Mother’s Day" the world over. A mother’s love is immeasurable and I would like to share a touching story with you to highlight a mother’s love.
This is a true story of a young boy who despised his mother because she had only one eye. Everytime his friends used to make fun of him saying: “Hey, your mother looks so scary with one eye” and the boy was ashamed of acknowledging his mother.
Days passed and he grew up and married and went off to Singapore with his family. The mother who was longing to see her son decided to give him a surprise and braving all odds she made a trip to this distance place only to be rejected once again. As she opened the gate, the little children who were her grandchildren did not know who she was and they screamed. The father came out and even though he recognized his mother did not want to acknowledge his mother and shouted at her saying “ How dare you scare my children. Go away from here”.
The poor lady turned back sad but was happy to know that her son and his family were happy. Days passed by and the son was nursing a feeling of guilt within himself. So, on the pretext of a school reunion, he told his wife he was going to his old school. He wanted to make amends with his mother whom he had rebuked and as he reached him home, what did he see? His mother’s dead body lay in a coffin with a message left on the table for him. The note read: “ Son, when you were small, you had an accident and lost an eye of yours. I did not want you to suffer and hence gave you my eye so that you could live normally and enjoy the beauty of the world. I am sorry for all the agony and embarrassment caused on account of me. But as I leave this world, I ask for your pardon”.
The son was dumbstruck, he had no words - just tears rolled down his cheeks. It was too late to say 'Sorry' to the person who had not only given him birth but also her eye to see him happy.
Such is a mother’s love – it knows no boundaries, it knows no limits. There is no one in this world who loves us more than our own mother.
