Dear Friends,
January has passed away and we are already in the second month of the New Year 2004 – FEBRUARY – the month of Valentine’s Day. The world over celebrates Valentine’s Day by presenting their loved one precious gifts as a token of their love. In this right spirit and context, every person in this world has someone special in their loves, it may be their parents or teachers, or siblings, or neighbours but a feeling ‘ to love’ and ‘be loved’ is indeed a feeling which cannot be explained in words.
But at the same time, there are some people who don’t have ANYONE to love them. The orphan, the beggar, the downtrodden, the sick, the lonely – can we not remember them in some way to bring a smile and happiness in their lives?. Even if we make one person happy a day we would be making 365 people happy throughout their year.
In this month’s issue of Women Vision, we have an all rounder – Dr. Zita Lobo. She is a working mother, who keeps a perfect balance between home and work. She is a veteran academician, a professional Toastmaster, a Reiki expert, a journalist, etc etc. but to top it all she is a Woman of the modern world with a vision which keeps pace with the changing times of today’s world.
Dr.Zita Lobo is the daughter of Sebastian Lobo and Stella D’Almeida and is the sister of Felicita,Vita, late Prakash, and Sabita. Married to Sebastian D’Souza, she has two lovely children -Zenobia and Zuider
Zita is currently a Lecturer in English at the reputed college for girls – the St Agnes College Mangalore. She has qualified in MA from the Mangalore University in Literature, Language and phonetics and has also done her PhD in English Literature(Bombay University)
She has a list of outstanding achievements to her name. Right from being an active members of the Toastmaster’s Club to being proficient in Journalism, Reiki etc. one can truly say that Zita is indeed a very versatile personality.
On the home front, she believes that it is the duty of a working mother to create a perfect harmony between her work and job so that the home is well taken care of. Women have to play an important role in Society and she believes in gender equality though she does admit at times the difference cannot be concealed or bridged due to various reasons. Women may be made to feel inferior but in certain arenas the women is the stronger sex .
In a very interesting interview conducted by Richie Lasrado (given below) Zita airs her views on today’s children with a special reference to the children brought up in the Gulf. She feels that they lose their roots and values and are not able to vibe with the Indian tradition and culture as their upbringing here is very exposed to the western world.
To the people of Mangalore Zita’s name is not unknown as she is in every field. It is truly a feather in her cap to be able to be involved in so many activities inspite of her work and home duties. This proves that “ Where there is a Will – there is a Way””
We are sure Zita’s example will be a ray of hope to all our young women of today.
Wishing you well till our next bulletin
