In this edition of WOMEN VISION we bring to you SR PHILOMENA CARDOZA

Sr. Philomina hails from very humble beginnings - born on the 19th March to Diog and Theresa Cardoza, of Moodbidri in South Kanara District of Mangalore, Philomena was one amongst their 6 children - 3 boys and 2 girls.
Philomena did her early schooling at the Bethany School in Taccode and later did her high schooling from the Rosa Mystica Convent in Gurpur. She joined the Jyothi Nivas College in Bangalore to pursue her PUC and graduated from the same college. She graduated in Master of Arts in 1980 with a first class in Economics from the Stella Maris Convent in Madras and later did her M.Phil in 1998 in Kannada from the Bangalore University.
She began her teaching career from 1972 and taught for three years at the Chickmaglur Higher Secondary School. From1981 till date she lectures at her Alma Mater the Jyothi Nivas College at Bangalore and has the distinction of heading this reputed institution as its Principal.

Her academic calibre and competence have enabled her to be on various academic and honorary councils such as the Bangalore University, the Vice President of the Principals Association Bangalore, St Peters Pontifical Institute Bangalore, Senate Member of the Inter university Ball badminton, Women Tournament Organizing Committee, Member of the Indian Liberal group, International Quality Assessment and Accreditation Council Organizing Council, PACER foundation Think Tank Committee, Karnataka forum, ICYM governing committee, Youth Christian Organizing Committee, National Biblical Cathetical Centre , Resource Person, Committee Member Bangalore University Degree Examination, Bangalore University Distance education Advisory Committee. Associate NCC Officers and NCC director's selection Board Member;
Her list of awards too is unending and she has bagged accolades galore to match her academic ability. Some of her outstanding awards the BEST CITIZEN OF INDIA AWARD given to her by the International Publishing House, and she also received the BARATH VIKAS AWARD by Integrated Council for socio- economic Progress,
She was called to her vocation on June 10th 1989 when she decided to join the St. Joseph of Tarbes order. She was professed a nun at the Community Convent in Madival Bangalore and from that day onwards she has totally surrendered her life for God's work.
Although she is the Principal of the college she believes in the philosophy "Simple Living - High Thinking" and leads a very simple life. She leads the service to the community life and loves to work for the slum dwellers. The
