Dear Friends,

Women it is said are considered to the "Weaker Sex" and this will continue to be true if we women do not cross these barriers and emerge to be Achievers
So far in Women Vision, we have been highlighting  the success stories of Konkani speaking women who have been achievers in their own way but from this edition, we wish to bring to you real life stories of women who have struggled from the basic level and have reached the top. Very often we are not attentive to the news in our newspapers, but we women should keep abreast of the rapid developments especially in the field of women. Who does success come to?? A good question to ask ourselves.
Recently,  the Food for thought in www.daijidubai.com reads as:

He who has achieved success has worked well, laughed often and loved much. - Elbert Hubbard

Success is a  mixture of not only hard work but of leisure and love - it may be love for your family or for your work or anything as long as you are in love with something close to you.  Success is inevitable if you persevere and very often we read how many hurdles some people have to go through to achieve their final goal of success.

And in today's edition of Women Vision,  we bring to you a very skillful,  resourceful and successful person - Sr. Lydia Fernandes A.C. Clad in the brown sari of the Apostolic Carmel Order, she is an epitome of dynamism, charisma and intelligence. Her ability and calibre  is proven by the long string of degrees to her credit. Having recently retired as the Principal of the St. Ann's B.Ed College in Mangalore she is still very actively involved in various posts and committee.  A very able person she is presently on the Review Committee of the Government of Karnataka of Sarva Shiksa Abhivan (Education for All) and goes as an examiner to the various universities.

She also conducts courses on Personal effectiveness  for teachers and has been on the inspection board for the recognition of the National Council for Teacher education.

On her retirement from the College, she has now been entrusted by the Superior General  the honourable work of writing the history for the education by the Apostolic Carmel Order.

Sr, Lydia Fernandes was born in Mangalore on the 24th of January.  She did her post graduation in M.A. (English Literature) and also completed her M.ed and also earned  her Phd. With  a vast experience of over 32 years in the field of education, she has excelled in the techniques of teaching English, value education  Vocational Guidance, Women's concerns in India and the like.

Ask  any ex-student of the B.ed College about Sr. Lydia  Fernandes and you are sure to get a very good report from them. A very soft spoken person, an eloquent speaker she is very intelligent and a resourceful personality Most striking about her is her simple and down to earth nature.  Inspite of having a busy schedule throughout the day not only in her capacity as Principal of the College but in her other activities as well, Sr. Lydia never seems rushed up or in a fast pace. She is always so well organized and calm in her temperament. She is also actively involved in so many other literary, honorary, and social activities which definitely are an epitome of her capability, her tenacity for work and her steadfastness. Sr. Lydia attributes her success - to perseverance and determination. "Nothing will come easily if you do not work for it and in the right direction" Truly sitting still and wishing will not make any of us great. In the words of Sr. Lydia we hope all young women  will realize that their future lies in their hands - work well and you will reach your goal.
