In this issue of Women Vision, we bring to you a Person who barely needs an introduction because of her popularity and her charisma. She is none other than the Bangalore based Ex Minister in the State of Karnataka MRS. EVA VAS.

The 80 year old Mrs. Eva Vas is the erstwhile daughter of Late Jerome Rosario Pereira (Manager of a Coffee Estate).
Ms. Vas graduated in Arts and B.Ed from the Madras University with a distinction in Science in the B.Ed examinatom. She also did her post graduation in MA from the Nagpur University
Being proficient in nearly 6 languages, Mrs. Eva Vas has been blessed with the gift of the gab which enables her to be a versatile orator. Mrs. Eva. Vas has dared to be different She opted to get into public life – a career normally most women shy away from. She has held high positions in various committees and organizations which speak of her ability and calibre. Being an efficient leader, the post held by hers prove her capabilities Apart from being in the Madras Educational Service for 7 years, she has been the Chairperson of the Kasturba Karya Vidhyalaya, and also of Serskasale Panchayat, Chickmaglur District. She was a member of the State Social Welfare Advisory Board, member of the Women & Child Welfare Council,and an Advisory Member for Vigilance Shelter.
She was elected Secretary Grameena Mahila Sangh for nearly a decade and was a member of the Sports Committee and Education Committee for Chickmagalur District. She has been the only Lady Corporator of Bangalore City Corporation. She has also been the Women’s Wing Convenor Congress(R), Minister of State for Food & Civil Supplies from March 1972 – December 1973, Minister for Education from December 1973 to September 1974 and a Cabinet Minister for Food & Civil Supplies from1974 to December 1977.
For Ms. Vas, dedication, loyalty and the will to admit to one’s mistakes are integral components of her personality. She believes that a gesture of encouragement can go a long way in motivating anybody.
Travelling and reading are her pastimes, but now due to age and ill health she has been confined to the walls of her home sweet home, yet she will never quit from keeping herself engaged in some activity to utilize every moment of her time.
Married to the Late Mr. Michael Vas (who was a Coffee Planter) she has been blessed with three lovely daughters Penny, Philomena and Pam.
The message from Mrs. Eva Vas to our esteemed readers of Women Vision is “You have to prove that you are confident about handling your responsibility and never underestimate your capabilities. While you may be a very capable person, if you are confident you have lost half the game already. At the same time it is not easy to call yourself a Leader as you cannot be arrogant and aggressive in the name of leadership”.
Her faith in God and the encouragement of her family members has given her the courage and determination to reach her pinnacle of success. We hope many more young women will trod on the path that Ms. Eva Vas trod!
