Elaine Fernandes (eldest D/o of Mr. Lindsay and Patsy Rego) is
a staunch activitist of women's issues. Having worked for an NGO in
Mangalore, she has gained the insights into the causes and solutions to
womens issues. She was selected by Rotary International to represent
India at Toulouse in 1997. She also was the first Lady Executive Member
of the Chemists & Druggists Assocation for South Kanara.
Currently based in Dubai, she works for a reputed private firm and is
the Jt. Secretary of the Indian Association of Dubai (Ladies Wing). She
has two sons - Rahul and Ranjan. |

In this issue of WOMEN VISION, we bring to you Mrs. LENA FERNANDES – a lecturer, a counsellor, a trainer, an educator all in one – but the most striking feature is her determination, her fortitude and the will to persevere through every hurdle in her life.

In the words of Ani DiFranco, she has said - "My idea of feminism is self-determination, and it's very open-ended: every woman has the right to become herself, and do whatever she needs to do." Ms. Lena Fernandes is the daughter of Joseph Sequeira and Flora Rodriques of Omzoor Tevu in Mangalore. She passed from the St. Agnes High School, Mangalore and did her Intermediate in Science Madras Board. She graduated in Arts (B.A.) with Economics & History from the Madras University and did her B.Ed from the St.Anne’s B.Ed College. With her love for learning she did her M.A Economics from the Banaras Hindu University and later did her M.Ed from the Karnatak University Dharwad She began her Doctorate Research from the Mangalore University department in Economics in 1984 but discontinued in1986. She has also done her post Graduate Diploma in Management Grade A Indira Gandhi National Open University and a Post Graduate Diploma in Human Resource in Human Resource Management GraDe A IGNOU. Apart from these high ranking qualifications, she has also equipped herself with other diplomas in Bakery from the Salem Institute of Bakery, Diploma in Research Methodol
