Many people love the tarty flavour of lemon juice in their dishes. But have you ever wondered that you can put this lemon juice to many more good uses than this?

There are enormous benefits to be drawn from the consumption of lemon juice and water in your everyday life. You simply need to arm yourself with the relevant knowledge and you will soon start valuing this amalgamation more than ever.

Lemon is an inexpensive, easily-available citrus fruit, popular for its culinary and medicinal uses. It is used to prepare a variety of food recipes such as lemon cakes, lemon chicken and beverages like lemonade and lemon-flavoured drinks. It is also used for garnishing.

Lemon juice consists of about 5 percent citric acid that gives a tarty taste to lemon. It is a rich source of Vitamin C. It also contains vitamins like Vitamin B, riboflavin and minerals like calcium, phosphorus and magnesium as well as proteins and carbohydrates.

How much lemon water should I drink?

In case you are in good health and weigh 70 kgs or less, it is advisable for you to have the juice of half a lemon squeezed into one glass of water, twice daily. However, if you weigh more than 70 kgs, the juice of one whole lemon in a glass of water is preferable. For maximum benefit, this mixture should be taken twice a day, although you may dilute more lemon juice according to your taste if you wish.

Do not remain oblivious to gifts of nature such as this -- always try to make the most of them. Make it a part of your daily routine to drink a glass of warm lemon water in the morning, so that the gateway to its many benefits opens up to you.

Mr. Adshenoy: I do agree with you.
The U.S. medical system is forcing
the patients to be drug addicts.

If we visit the Doctor for any
common sickness, they will give
the file to the secretary to make
the next appointment in three weeks
to one month duration. Some
patients can't say no to that
compulsive behaviour of the
Doctors, and the the average doctor
will find something to prescribe
drugs. Thus, the journey of
drug dependency starts, and the
business of medical industry is
moving like a rhythmical dancing
show. Majority of the doctors
won't even mention the need of
proper diet in natural foods
while treating the patients for
regular sickness, other than for
reducing weight.

If a study is done within two
years, there will be surprising
result of less deaths all over
the U.S. Now, due to the economic
meltdown, the patient census in
the hospitals are far less, also
people are avoding doctor's visit.

Our forefathers lived longer without modern medicines their
medicines were all natural
food. Lemon, Lime, Curd, fruits,
green leaves, roots etc have great medical values, but
we waste some of the items
as compost. When I saw the
sweet and ripe Papayas being
wasted in Kerala, I was greatly
disappointed, because it has great
healing power for many of the
stomach ailments.

Lime and Lemon are two of the
God-given food specialities with
high medical values, but we fail
to make use of it.

When we measure the content of
suger in the Colas, it may give us
some sense about the danger of
consuming too much of that fancy
drink. " Let our food be our
medicine and medicine be our food".
President Franklin D. Roosevelt.

Mr. Ruchir Agarwal, lemon, honey, pepper etc are the catalyst that raises the body temperature (Body heat) in other words the body burns extra calories to increase slight body temperature. This is how the accumulated fat is burnt to increase the body heat.

While medicinal benefits of lemon are numerous. It is very misleading to state " Diseases like cholera or malaria can be treated with lemon water as it is a blood purifier".

The diseass like malaria with its deadly falcifrum strain can only be cured with proper and timely medication. Malaria, especially Falciparum malaria, is a medical emergency requiring hospitalization. Chloroquine is a frequently used anti-malarial medication, but quinidine or quinine, or the combination of pyrimethamine and sulfadoxine, are given for chloroquine-resistant infections. Please do not state diseases like malaria, cholera etc can be treated with lemon water, it may be beneficial however treated is a wrong choice of word. Let's work together for a Malaria free Mangalore!

A valuable article indeed! Thanks to the author and the Daijiworld. Did not know that lemon had so many benefits. To answer Ruchir Agarwal`s query, yes, adding honey to the lemon juice indeed is quite useful. Must take it on the empty stomach in the mornings. I take a tablespoon of fresh lemon juice with a spoon each of honey and garlic paste added to it regularly in the mornings - this is especially helpful in bringing down the cholesterol.

I drink a mug of warm water with ½ -lemon and 1-tsp honey daily morning, empty stomach with little turmeric and pepper powder added to it. Later, I gargle in warm water with ¼ -tsp salt before brushing and take a brisk walk for 45 minutes inside the house in-between the hall and my bedroom.
