An appeal for the help towards the completion of construction of St. Paul’s church with pilgrimage centre at Delanthabettu, Kanyana P.O. vittal Firca, Bantwal Taluk, Mangalore Diocese, Karnataka -524279, India.

11-01-2013

“Paul lived and worked for Christ, and for him he suffered and died” Benedict XVI.

Dear Benefactors and Denotees of St. Paul the Apostle,

In the year 1971 the late Fr. Peter Nazareth then the Parish Priest of Vittal Church, in his letter dated 01-01-1971 requested for the permission from the late Bishop Rt. Dr. Basil S. D’ Souza to celebrate the holy masses in the houses for the poor catholic people, living in the distant villages especially in the village centers of Manela, Peruvai and Delanthabettu as they were not able to attend the Sunday Masses and other spiritual obligations and celebrations due to the distance, poverty and dangers in the ways.

In the course of time, the churches and presbyteries were built at Peruvai and Manela, these two churches were made independent, with the facility of having parish priests.

However the felt need of people of Delanthabettu remained unattended. Meanwhile the local poor Catholics bought some land for the Cemetery to be used for the burial of local catholic people. In the course of time, these catholic people also bought some more land from  two Non-Christian families at the nominal rates for the building of church dedicated to the patronage St. Paul for their spiritual needs and for the memory of 2000 Birth Year Jubilee of St. Paul the Apostle.

Now the church is also built as the sign of immense debt of gratitude to St. Paul, because as no early church leader has done more to explain and propagate the essentials of the Christian message than St. Paul, with rich insight and bold zeal. He worked untiringly to preach Jesus to the nations and today’s church owes this extraordinary Apostle an immense debt of gratitude Dr. Angelo Gracias, Aux. Bishop of Bombay and “in order to make even widely known the immense wealth of the teachings they contain a true patrimony of humanity redeemed by Christ” Pope Benedict XVI.

It is well known to the people that the Mugha0l King Shah-jahan built the world famous monument Tajmahal, out of love for his wife Mumtaj, at Agra. Our People of Delanthabettu although economically poor, out of admination to St. Paul, for the fond love which he cherished towards Christ and his concern for the salvation of people both Jews and gentiles, and by walking 10,000 miles within the period of 30 years to preach Christ would like to have this church, also as the Memorial to the 2000th Birth year Jubilee of St. Paul the Apostle.

Towards this cause of spiritual sanctification and social uplift of the people of Delanthabettu, Our present Holy Father the Pope Benedict XVI has donated Rs. 8,75,000/- and Sri. D.V.S Gowda the Ex–chief Minister of Karnataka has donated Rs. 10,00,000 from the church Repair Scheme of Sri B.S Yediurappa, the Ex- chief Minister of Karnataka.

Now this church is being built in the location of old shed, roofed with coconut leaves. The local people although economically poor, not much educated, but enthusiastic, have built the edifice to the roof level as per the civil engineer’s church Plan. The local people are offering the unskilled labour as their contribution.

Now the local poor enthusiastic Catholic people are making this appeal to the Devotees & Admirers of St.Paul the Apostle, to become the partners of this Historical Temple of God for all round development of people and as also he mark of salutation to St. Paul the Apostle.

The Friends of St. Paul the Apostle are kindly and requested invited to help the good Catholic people of Delanthabettu for the project of St. Paul’s Church Pilgrimage Centre, by way of contributing the donation to meet the cost of following items:

The cost of roof - Rs. 8.00Lakhs

The cost of Church tower construction - Rs. 7.00 Lakhs.

The cost of sanctuary with the Altar - Rs. 8.00 Lakhs.

The cost of the flooring - Rs. 8.00Lakhs.

The cost of the doors and windows – Rs. 12.00 Lakhs

The names of Benefactors will be inscribed with the photos and amounts on the marble of this unique Pilgrimage Centre Church of St. Paul the Apostle.

We also make appeal to the Devotees of St. Paul to be the Donors of this unique St. Paul’s Church and Pilgrimage Centre on the following way:

PORTA FIDEI ( THE YEAR OF FAITH)

Profession for Faith (creed)

We believe in one God,
the Father almighty,
maker of heaven and earth,
of all things visible and invisible;
And in one Lord, Jesus Christ,
the only begotten Son of God,
begotten from the Father before all ages,
light from light,
true God from true God,
begotten not made,
of one substance with the Father,
through Whom all things came into existence,
Who because of us men and because of our salvation came down from the heavens,
and was incarnate from the Holy Spirit and the Virgin Mary
and became man,
and was crucified for us under Pontius Pilate,
and suffered and was buried,
and rose again on the third day according to the Scriptures
and ascended to heaven, and sits on the right hand of the Father,
and will come again with glory to judge living and dead,
of Whose kingdom there will be no end;
And in the Holy Spirit, the Lord and life-giver,
Who proceeds from the Father,
Who with the Father and the Son is together worshipped and together glorified,
Who spoke through the prophets;
in one holy Catholic and apostolic Church.
We confess one baptism to the remission of sins;
we look forward to the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come.

Amen
